Kurzbeschreibung

Practical Node.js is your step-by-step guide to learning how
to build a wide range of scalable real-world web applications using a
professional development toolkit. Node.js is an innovative and highly efficient
platform for creating web services. But Node.js doesn't live in a vacuum! In a
modern web development, many different components need to be put together —
routing, database driver, ORM, session management, OAuth, HTML template engine,
CSS compiler and many more.

If you already know the basics of Node.js, now
is the time to discover how to bring it to production level by leveraging its
vast ecosystem of packages. As a web developer, you'll work with a varied
collection of standards and frameworks - Practical Node.js shows
you how all those pieces fit together.

Practical Node.js takes you from installing all the
necessary modules to writing full-stack web applications by harnessing the
power of the Express.js and Hapi frameworks, the MongoDB database with
Mongoskin and Mongoose, Jade and Handlebars template engines, Stylus and LESS
CSS languages, OAuth and Everyauth libraries, and the Socket.IO and Derby libraries,
and everything in between. The book also covers how to deploy to Heroku and
AWS, daemonize apps, and write REST APIs. You'll build full-stack real-world Node.js
apps from scratch, and also discover how to write your own Node.js modules and
publish them on NPM. You already know what Node.js is; now learn what you can
do with it and how far you can take it!

What you’ll learn

  • Manipulate data from the mongo console
  • Use the Mongoskin and Mongoose MongoDB
    libraries
  • Build REST API servers with Express and
    Hapi
  • Deploy apps to Heroku and AWS
  • Test services with Mocha, Expect and
    TravisCI
  • Utilize sessions for authentication
  • Implement a third-party OAuth strategy with
    Everyauth
  • Apply Redis, domains, WebSockets, and
    clusters
  • Write your own Node.js module, and publish
    it on NPM

Who this book is for

Practical Node.js is for web developers who have some familiarity with the basics of Node.js and want to learn how to use it to build apps in a professional environment.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Without a doubt the best Node book available 27. Juli 2014
Von Paul Coady - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Without a doubt the best Node book available. At last a writer that makes the effort to ensure the reader experience is a hassle free and learning one. The biggest gripe I have with software development books is the lack of updates. If a book is older than six months none of the examples work and you spend 95% of your time trying to figure out why the code doesn't work. If publishers made sure their books were up to date then this would be a great advantage over piracy. The thing I like about this book is that every step of the way the writer has shown the version of all middleware used to ensure that it works i.e. instead of "npm install -g express-generator" he uses "npm install -g express-generator@4.0.0". A simple thing that makes a big difference.
Writing style is simple and to the point. The examples are great and real World stuff along with little gems thrown in here and there.
10 out of 10 for this! I'll be looking out for his next book!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Totally Recommended! 23. Juli 2014
Von enzo - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I've been following Azat books because of the excellent examples and didactics.

I got this book through Apress Alpha program and has everything, from the new version of express (express 4) and Hapi, how to create templates with jade engine or handlebars, MongoDB for the database layer, realtime interaction with your users through Socket.io, OAuth authentication, real-world server configuration using nginx, upstart, varnish.

believe me, you will not find nothing as comprehensive as this book, and covers all aspects related to the use of node.js in production, totally recommended.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The best part of the book is in the title: Practical. 3. August 2014
Von Joshua Theaker - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
The best part of the book is in the title: Practical. The first chapter gives a summary of the approach taken in the code and makes for a more organized and comprehensive coding experience. Then, the chapters introduce the tools needed for various types of projects. After describing what the author is trying to teach, each of the projects starts with a summary list of what is to be accomplished which gives a greater cohesion to the project. This isn't just code with comments; you can understand the experience from someone who has had to figure it out without a map.
I give this 5 starts because I started with it today and have already cut & pasted some of it for my job.

Finally a comprehensive resource to learn the ins and outs of Node.js software development! Azat has done so much research and compiled everything you need to finally wrap your head around this exciting technology. I can't thank the author enough for putting this resource together. I only wish this book had been released sooner. I finally feel like I'm on my way to writing production level software and it's all thanks to him.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Straightforward including Mongoose, Heroku, and AWS 25. Juli 2014
Von Ben and Tracy - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I am an Alpha reader and read this book when I was just getting started in business. The style is very straightforward which really helped since I was a beginner. It's the only book on Express.js 4 and that has all the necessary components including Mongoose, Heroku and AWS. I definitely looked around before buying and my research paid off.
