I bought this book just a few years back. This is one of the best book about the mind that I've ever read! Dr Murphy gives examples after examples of how people used the power of their mind to solve problems, heal seemingly incurable illness and to aquire success. The author himself used this method to heal a skin maglinancy when he was young, and he's got concrete results himself. "Ask for bread, and you'll not be given stone". And he has one of the most powerful technique to suggest to the subconscious as well. And he tells you all about it in this book - what works, why it works, what doesn't work. This is the best secret you want to know in life. I often use this method to achieve things as well. In 1997, I had this wish to do so well in my design project that my lecturer will print it in the school magazine. Seemed an impossible task cos I used to be an average student. Well, I achieved that goal within a year! You can use your subconscious to attract the people you want to attract, get the help you need from whomever can supply it, create oppourtunities for you. The possibilities are limitless- because your subconsious is infinite and unlimited. It is an Intelligence that listens to your command! GET THIS BOOK! I will buy it even if it cost 3 times higher, because the secret within cannot be put a price tag on!

Having received bunch of emails from people who have read this book, but still had difficulty applying the principles in this, I felt compelled to share few ideas.

First, the principles in this book are correct and they work if you apply them. The book is about using the power of your subconscious mind. As I read over some previous reviews here, I noticed that some people stumbled upon the language and pointed out that one should read "As A Man Thinketh" (yes, it is a good book to read), and made a reference to "as you think in your HEART" - not mind. Another name for the SUBCONSCIOUS is HEART of the MIND, because SUBCONSCIOUS MIND is the REALM OF EMOTIONS.

Some people also erroneously think that the subconscius mind is in one's head, it isn't. It is not even confined to your physical body, but permeates it. Your physical body is IN your MIND. Another way to describe the subconscious may be to refer to it as your "energy field" (that may be somewhat more modern "language"). Do not get stuck to words and labels, though. They are merely useful to help describe things - they are not the experience itself.

To use self-hypnosis successfully, to use the power of your mind successfully, it is not enough to just repeat the words mechanically (although, with a lot of repetition, they too will be impressed upon your subconscious mind), but you must also use your feelings - EXPERIENCING the outcome you desire AS IF it were REAL for you now - subjectively.

The term subconscious mind is used to refer to your own individual storehouse of knowledge and memories. The term "superconscious", or "universal mind", "God", and sometimes in hypnosis the term "unconscious" are used to refer to the infinite storehouse of knowledge, which you access through your subconscious mind.

There is ONLY ONE Mind, but for the convenience we have divided it linguistically into three minds, according to its functions - conscious, subconscious and superconscious. You can imagine that there is one door standing between your conscious and subconscious mind and another between your subconscious and superconscious. You access both your subconscious and superconscious by getting the critical faculty of your conscious mind out of the way and the easiest way to do this is by fully engaging your imagination and your emotions.

Because you access your subconscious and superconscious mind in the same way, people sometimes just use the term "subconscious" to refer to both functions. Instead of using the world superconscious, Murphy sometimes uses he word "God" - which I like, but some people feel very uncomfortable with due to their religious upbringing or lack of understanding and direct experience (A Course in Miracles is one books that may help in that respect).

Your conscious mind is that part of your mind that judges things and contemplates whether you can or cannot do something. It compares things and when you attempt to use your conscius mind and work on some goal, it may pop up with all the reasons why something may not be possible for you to do. Your subconscious mind goes for DIRECT EXPERIENCE. It doesn't judge whether something is possible or impossible, good or bad - it merely ACCEPTS as true and real whatever you EXPERIENCE as REAL subjectively.

When you pick a goal to work on with your subconscious, make sure that it is something that is BELIEVABLE to you. Whatever ideas you desire to impress upon your subconscious mind will work in conjunction with that which is already in your subconcious mind - so if the ideas and beliefs which are currently in your subconscious are in conflict with your desired goal, it will take you a long time to experience the desired results. If you begin with things you are willing to accept as possible for you, you'll get much faster results and you'll also condition your mind for success and to the world of many new wonderful possibilities.

Also, keep in mind, that you are in one way or another programming your subconscious mind with every thought you think. So, if you are using self-hypnosis to help you create greater abundance and you are working on your goal for half an hour a day, then you spend the other 23 hours contemplating how you don't have money to pay the bills, you're just undoing all that work you invested in self-hypnosis. Once you are done with your mind-programming, whenever you think of your goal, you'll make it happen much faster if you spend time expecting the positive outcome and giving thanks that what you desire is already yours, or at least that it is on its merry way to you.

This lovely book teaches you how to use the power of your mind in many different areas in your life. It also provides examples from the lives of others who have successfully used the power of their mind to overcome numerous obstacles and create what their hearts desired. This little stories may serve you as an inspiration until you have an assortment of your own success stories to tell - and if you genuinely apply the principles in this book, you'll have many great stories of your own.

This classic work explains the miracle of the power of mind in a clear and concise way. All the tools for continual self-improvement are provided here in an accessible way. Explaining the fact that each individual has two minds, the conscious and the subconscious, Murphy proceeds to explain the purpose and functioning of each and how powerful the subconscious is.

This great subconscious power must however be directed by the conscious mind, and that is the individual's responsibility. An impressive array of techniques for directing the subconscious, like affirmation, visualization and subliminal communication are clearly explained. Many helpful affirmations are provided to kick-start the process of healing and many examples are provided on how people solved their problems by correcting their thinking.

This inspiring book is immensely therapeutic in cleaning cobwebs and dogmatic brainwashing from the mind. I recommend this as one the very best entry points in the entire field of self-improvement. I also recommend Mind Magic by Marta Hiatt. Other authors whose work is also of great benefit in this regard, include Thomas Troward, Catherine Ponder, Louise Hay, Emmet Fox and Frederick Bailes. Joseph Murphy's books on cultivating a consciousness of prosperity are very helpful too.

Let me tell you that this is the best book I have ever read and quite literally saved me life. Two years ago I pondered a simple question. Why were some people happy while I was so miserable? I got an account with and ordered all the books I could to find to answer the question and I stumbled upon this book. I read it then and thought, 'yeah right this can't possibly be true.' I just could not believe that you could create your destiny with your thoughts. I thought that the book was ludicrous and a waste of time, so I put it down.
About 6 months afterward I picked up with an open mind. This time I practiced the techniques just to see what would happen. My first goal was to become more confident. Through a disciplined program of visualization and autosuggestion I accomplished the goal. The strange thing was that I didn't even realize it was happening because the subconscious mind is so subtle. One day while I was around a lot of people I stopped for a minute and thought, 'Why aren't I nervous?' My confidence problem disappeared right there. Then I began working on different goals one of which was overcoming a fear I had and the techniques worked perfectly again. This is when I really began to believe that there was something to this stuff. Once you realize that anything you could ever want in your life you can get, you are just filled with a mystical sense of awe. The only drawback to this is the difficulty required. I can tell you now that I still am not completely changed. It takes a lot of time and discipline to change your mental patterns, but everyday you just need to keep believing and doing the techniques. It's easy to lose faith and think it's not working, but all you need is that first success and you will be a believer. Start small and then work your way up to bigger goals and everything around you will fall into place. The last thing I want to say is that you need to truly DESIRE to change. It won't be easy, but 'keep on until day breaks and the shadows flee away...'
Good luck and Peace.

If I had known this book was written in 1963, that the writer would basically encourage prayer and hope as a way to get what one wants, then I never would have purchased it.

God bless Joseph Murphy's soul into infinity. I would give this book 10 stars if that were possible. I first read it two years ago and it set me off on an incredible journey of self-discovery and self-improvement. It is immensely therapeutic in cleaning cobwebs from the mind. I have reread it twice since and also read about 5 other books by Murphy. I would recommend this as the very best title in the entire field of self-improvement. A similar author whose work has also helped me, is Frederick Bailes. Then move on to Louise L Hay, John Price, Stuart Wilde.

I read this book at age 33. This was a good year for the beginning of the awakening of my spirituality. Reading Dr. Jospeh's Book, gave me the insight and attunation to universal positive thinking. I received this enlightment October 10, 1977. All the electrical energy in my body rose from the bottom of my teet to the top of my head and down trough my arms into my fingerips. Three days later the spirit woke me up early that monday morning and led my to the baby grand piano in the liviing room of my home at 1025 Burnside Ave in Los Angeles. I played the piano like Ive' never played before; for eight hours straight or more. To this day I have never turned away from this energy when it comes to me through the piano. The sound generated from this spirit is most incredible. I can't explain it! You must experience it! After ecperiencing this force for almost tweny years now., I am ready to share it with the world of positive thinkers. At this time I would like to invite these people to hear the sound of the power of positive thoughts. More than anything, I would love to share this sound with Dr. Joseph Murphy. Since this incredible experience, I have personally given this book to at least 5 other people to read so they would have the privilidge to share this incredible experience too.

Dr. Murphy gives you some usable ideas on why what we think influences how our life turns out. Although written in a religious bordering tone it can be - if you know how to read it - be very insightful

You might be thinking: "I've reading so many self-development books, what makes me think there's anything different in this one?" This is the owner's manual for your "port" into the universal intelligence. I am a believer, so I believe this intelligence is God, and that he unites everything living. But believer or not, if you don't own this book, then you don't have the owner's manual for your incredible brain yet. Everything you need is INTERNAL! It's there, waiting for you to recognize it's there, and waiting for you to BELIEVE it's there! I have the 1963 version of the book, but will probably purchase the 2000 version so that I don't miss anything that comes from this writer's pen. I would also recommend Resurrection by Neville. It's on back order now, but is worth the wait. He and Murphy are on the same wavelength, and both used quotes from the Bible to give substance and to support the information given about the conscious and the subconscious. Neville is more of a challenge to read.

This book is simply amazing! You must check this book out! I've already worn my book out, reading it so many times. This book will show you how to use the power of your subconscious mind (the hidden mind) to improve your life. This is no hype or exaggeration! This is all based on the scientific fact that the subconscious mind acts like a "robot servant" and follows your repeated mental commands. It doesn't know the difference, whether what you tell your mind is true or false. Your mind will simply make your reality match your thoughts. This amazing ability has been proven in my life, as well as the lives of many other people. Many people have used their minds to conquer serious illnesses such as Cancer, others have used their hidden mind power to find better paying jobs, or to get the new car they needed. The possibilities are endless. The tips and guidelines in the book are simple, easy to follow, and will amaze you
