For fans of Nora Roberts and Janet Evanovich….

After months of unemployment, her bank account dwindling, Ainsley Walker is starting to wonder if her career as a gemstone detective will ever take off.

Her life changes when she accepts an offer from a handsome importer to travel to the country of Portugal—the gorgeous but overlooked jewel of Western Europe—to search for a sapphire azulejo that has been stolen from an historic chapel.

On her fast-paced adventure, Ainsley explores thieves’ fairs, antique trams, ancient Roman ruins, and the dangerous roads of rural wine valleys. She finds joy, pain, friendship, duplicity, and murder—and, most importantly, a renewed sense of purpose in life.

From an author who worked on the foreign desk of The Washington Post…

…who was a finalist in a prestigious short story contest sponsored by the estate of F. Scott Fitzgerald…

…comes a travel adventure that will change the way you see your life.

Fifth in the series.
Approximately 70,000 words.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good book needs an editor 15. Oktober 2013
Von Barbara J. Smith - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
J.A. Jemay is back with a new Ainsley Walker Gemstone Travel Mystery, this time set in Portugal. The Portugal Sapphire sees Ainsley taking a job in Portugal to find a stolen azulejos with a sapphire imbedded in it. The search takes her all over Portugal with some death-defying adventures, a friendship with a criminal, and a little romance to boot! The history, culture and port wine lessons are wonderful, but the story itself is a bit farfetched. I think I felt the same way about the last book she wrote (The Puerto Rico Pearl). Although a bit unrealistic, the story still kept my interest. One thing that really upset me with this book is that there were many grammatical errors. I think Jemay has a good thing going here with her travel mysteries, but she definitely needs a good editor. If errors don't bother you, you may love this book. But they drive me nuts! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my review.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Entertaining 21. Oktober 2013

Ainsley is an appealing heroine involved in a romp through Portugal looking for a stolen gemstone. The plot is implausible but has the benefit of taking us on an unconventional tour of Portugal, with local culture thrown in. The book is light hearted entertainment, and will wile away a few hours, give you a few laughs and not stretch your brain too much. Mine was a review copy.

I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. Who knew that a young woman with a love of travel, history and adventure could earn a living as detective specializing only in the recovery of gemstones? At first glance this sounds like a huge stretch. But Ainsley Walker has a strong voice with a sense of spirit behind her words. The characters, story, and fast paced action are compelling and never boring. The beauty of Portugal, its people, culture, and history all add up to make an exciting trip for the reader. I was happy to discover that there are more in this series.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Blue Bauble Brambles 29. September 2013
Von Susan Goldin - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
A story with a main character who invented a decidedly quirky occupation ~ set within a travelogue and history revealing saga as she traipses around the global countryside looking for a giant blue gem ~ this is a recipe for a already successful mystery series. Ainsley has a travel bug that is supplemented by her passion for baubles and a career she created in a down employment market. And amazingly- as we follow in her footsteps - her odd career choice works convincingly offering her (and the reader) a glimpse at an exotic location as the mystery story reveals its places and tidbits of key monuments and their history. A thoroughly enjoyable, light reading hor'd oeuvre for those who enjoy some of their travel to be of the armchair variety. A quick read which will engage the reader enough to make them wonder about (and possibly read) the other gem recoveries in this series. A perfect snack for a side-tracked world traveler/reader who enjoys a tasty escape from the stay-at-home meal of everyday reality.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Portugal Sapphire (An Ainsley Walker Gemstone Travel Mystery) 23. Oktober 2013
Von AVID READER - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
Who would have thought that I would love, love, love a mystery? But I have fallen in love with J.A. Jernay's books. I received this one free to review it, and it is a pleasure to do so. She is a down to earth young lady, out of work and out of money. Ainsley travels the world looking for missing gemstones and encounters various plots along the way. We meet many different personalities through her eyes, and a very descriptive dialogue of Portugal and the people she meets along the way.
Even if you are not a fan of mysteries...give this one a try. You will love it!!
