Not the Real Thing

Not what I was looking for. There are no guitar tabs in the book but that wasn't the big issue. If you have looked at Andy Summers Guitar DVD from Hot Licks you will see right away that the cord diagrams are not what he plays.
Message in a bottle has basic cords and not the jazz types that Summers plays in the songs. I thought at first that it might just be that one song but it's the same for others.
If you aren't looking for the same patterns that were played by Summers it should be OK,. They do have the most songs I've seen in one book.
Suggest you try Summers' DVD his lessons are good and you will get what he played.

The Police Complete music book

I have a few Hal Leonard books now, the most recent purchases were Led Zeppelin Complete and this one, The Police Complete. They are fine books for playable versions of songs for beginning to intermediate musicians but they often do not reflect the exact or original artists' versions of the songs.
Perhaps this is for licensing reasons or more likely it is done to make the songs easier to play but do not expect all the songs played from the book to sound like the originals and don't be surprised if you can't play along with the albums based on the book. The chords are often different fingerings and much simplified, the songs are sometimes in different keys and there's a fair amount of detail missing.
In the case of this particular book, keep in mind that Andy Summers (and Sting and Stewart Copeland for that matter) is a very talented musician and was an accomplished classical guitarist before The Police was formed.
If you want to find out how the band played the songs, don't bother with this book.
If you just like the band and want to play a bunch of their songs without all the intense technical details, this is the book for you. I believe that is the goal of this type of book, and it does that well.

The Police Conquered The World

At one time in their lives the three gentlemen of The Police
conquered the world with their talent for playing their instruments well,and Stings high pitched vocals, not just banging out a tune. Stings haunting melodies are standards of today, and live on in their still shining glory. Stewart and Andy knocked off some good ones too.Two of my favorites being Stewarts Does Everyone Stare and the franctic Fall Out which started the whole thing. Andy's often wierd sense of humor made his songs rather unique and timeless."Mother","Friends",by Andy and "Be My Girl/ Sally" (written with Sting) are hysterical and "Shambelle" is a fantastic instrumental showing Andy's rather unique take on the world,and his absolute talent for playing the guitar. But of course Sting takes the prize as the genius songwriter and bass player of his time with classics, like "Don't Stand So Close To Me" "Wrapped Around Your Finger" "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" and "Every Breath You Take". But Stings little known B side songs are even more fabulous in my opinion which makes him one of a kind. The Masoko Tanga, Secret Journey, Oh My God, and "Too Much Information"etc etc. The Photos are a must for any collector of The Police's memorobilia. The biggest disappointment, "I Burn For You" and "Only You" from the "Brimstone and Treacle" soundtrack recorded by The Police and Stings haunting "Once Upon A Day Dream"and "Murder By Numbers" were not included in this wonderful anthology of notes and chords. Maybe they can include them on the next printing. Anyone who plays an instrument will appreciate what's here and even if you don't you'll find it fascinating anyway.
