Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What do you hear? is a classic picture book that will delight young children. It has a simple repetitive text that makes it easy for young readers to join in. Eric Carle beautifully illustrates this book, with bold and colourful pictures of animals.

The book follows a similar format to Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? The reader is introduced to a new animal on each double-page spread. This is an excellent book for developing children's prediction skills as they will really enjoy predicting which animal will be heard next. This book would also be good for introducing the use of question marks, as each double page includes a question and an answer. Interesting vocabulary is used to describe the noises made by the animals which will challenge a young reader eg: "braying, trumpeting, snarling" etc.

This book is an absolute must for children aged 3-5, but will be enjoyed by children aged 0-7. If your child enjoyed Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you see? they are sure to enjoy this book just as much. --Amanda York -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine andere Ausgabe: Taschenbuch .

After a full generation, a companion to a perennial favorite (Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, 1967). In the interim, Carle's bold, colorful art has become a bit more sophisticated, though no more appealing. The pattern is similar: in response to a query modeled on the title, each animal now hears the next--the flamingo says, ``I hear a zebra braying in my ear,'' the zebra hears a boa constrictor hissing; and so on. At the end, a zookeeper hears a group of children, each imitating one of the animals. Attractive but not quite up to its predecessor: the text seems a little strained (especially some of the attributed voices--do peacocks yelp?), and the conclusion lacks the extra levels of meaning that made Brown Bear special. Small children (18 mos-4yrs) will enjoy mimicking the animal sounds and following along with the melody of this tale. The repetition of the story, as with many of Mr. Carle's books, helps my 2-yr old child participate and enjoy the reading experience to the fullest. These are his favorite books.

My 15-month old son whose favorite book has been Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You see? has found a new favorite in Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You hear? He shrieks with delight as he hears us make the animal sounds and sees the colorful illustration, Mr. Carle is so well known for. My question is, What next? When can we expect the next in series of wonderful tales of animals living in perfect harmony, accompanied by the beautiful illustrations??

EXCELLENT EXCELLANT BOOK 18. November 1997

Your two and a half year old can read this book by him/herself after you read it with them a few times! It is my daughter's favorite just like the Brown Bear, Brown Bear what do you see? book by the same author. The kids like to peep at the next page and see which animal it next and then read it. They learn a lot of new words from this book such as hissing, braying, bellowing, etc. And the most impressive thing is my daughter has learnt how to pronounce certain hard words from this author's books and she does just fine. At her age, she can actually say "boa constrictor" (one of the animals in the book) very clearly and with such innocence she reads the third last page as follows: "zoo peeker, zoo peeker, what do you hear? instead of zookeeper zookeeper! Thank you Bill Martin Jr and Eric Carle, for creating this book. I have had this book for months and my daughters still love it. It is nothing but the BEST !!!!
