After reading all the hype about this book (Planet Law School) I decided that I had to purchase it before I go to law school. Big mistake! 95% of the content of this book lists references that the author believes you should read (and purchase) before going to law school. Most of the other chapters in the book relate to second and third year students, not even pertinent information that the first year student can rely on. The author gives you no plan of attack for your first year (unlike Jeff Deaver's book, The Complete Law School Companion, which I highly recommend); Throuhout Planet Law School, the author names book after book, study aid after study aid, audio tape after audio tape that he thinks you need to be successful in law school. Personally, I think it's a money making scam, telling the reader to buy all kinds of other books in addition to his, Planet Law School. Other than mentioning about student outlines and how important they are, this book just refers you to other books, and really is a waste of money. If you just have to have this book, I recommend that you go to the library, and if they don't have it, ask them if they can do an interlibrary loan on it, that way you will save yourself a crisp twenty dollar bill. One star rating.

I posted a good review of PLS on July 25, 1999 (right before entering), and after survival OneL, I wanted to write again and tell everyone how much MORE I recommend it. PLS definately helped me survive my first year. Pretty much, it was my bible. I found out that I was way more prepared for what was to come than all the other students. I was a walking advertisment for the book-- I mean, I recommended it to EVERYONE, current as well as future students. I will continue to do that- it is the only way I know to thank Atticus Falcon. I literally followed every bit of advise in PLS, and it showed in my performance, and in how I handled the extreme level of stress. I was able to handle the workload and the stress alot better than my sectionmates. I have absolutely no doubt that if I hadn't read the book- I would have either dropped out or flunked out the first year. This book is more important to first year survival than Black's Law Dictionary. There isn't one thing in that book that didn't come true. I highly recommend reading PLS the year before entering-- it is an absolute must for anyone thinking about law school.

This book blows me away. I've finished two years of law school, and PLS has helped me immensely. I've read many law school books, and always come back to this one. (I gave the others away, and have read PLS probably at least 5 times. I will not give this one away.) It has stuff for every phase of preparing to be a lawyer, from high school courses to college on to several chapters on getting a law job. I recommend it to every law student. I also recommend it to every college student even thinking about law school.

Not very useful at a top 10 law school
PLS's list of recommended study aids is useful. However, I would be very wary of the author's advice to blow off anything concerning policy and concentrate only on the black letter... Lesen Sie weiter...
