My teacher chose this book for me, and I really didnt want to read it. I wasn't sure what this book was going to be like, but I thought it was going to be pretty stupid. It ended up being boring for about the first two chapters, but then after that I loved it. One thing I didn't like was how hard the names were to pronounce. I guess that's just because they're Egyptian names. What I liked about the book was when Senmut steals gold from the mines. This was an exciting part. The book is about a boy named Senmut whose father gets sick, so Senmut starts to carve a statue. While he does this, he drops his chisle and it strikes and kills a dove. The boy is sentenced to a lifetime of hard work in the mines of Nobia, so Senmut is taken from his family to work. When he finishes his project he prays to it. Will Senmut and the gods heel his father? To find out, read a Place in the Sun. I give this book a five star grading out of five. I think this book is meant for ages ten and up.
