From Booklist

Schwartz was among the original group of successful investors profiled by Jack Schwager in his popular Market Wizards: Interviews with Top Traders (1989). By that time Schwartz had discovered how to make money in the market after a decade of losses. A full-time independent trader who relies on technical analysis, Schwartz has won the U.S. Trading Championship--run by a professor at Stanford University--a number of times, often amassing more earnings than all other contestants combined. In 1990, he nearly died from pericarditis caused by a rare virus. Since then he has resumed trading at a somewhat slower pace but with unabated success. Much like an athlete reminiscing about big games, great plays, disappointing losses, and teammates and opponents, Schwartz talks here (with the aid of coauthors) about his career. He explains his strategies, details his techniques, and ruminates about life in general. And, in spite of the pun suggested by his title, Schwartz seems like a pretty nice guy! From Kirkus Reviews

A Wall Street trader exercises a rich man's prerogative and offers financial advice and his life story. ``See how much money I made!'' is the message. ``I'm pretty smart and damned tough, too.'' To be sure, Schwartz (``Buzzy'' to his pals) is the prototypical hard driver, a truly successful day trader, buying and selling in lightning strokes for his own account. His is a talent for exquisite market timing, a tricky game for even the most proficient professionals. His specialty is S&P futures, a technique using the marvel of leverage to greatly multiply the chances for gainor losson each tick. It requires an inordinate amount of research as well as stamina, acumen, and nerve, but it can be worth millions every year. The alternative, as Buzzy frets, is ``going tapioca.'' Buzzy dearly wanted his kids to say, `` `My daddy's the Champion Trader!' That was all I cared about,'' he admits. With success came Lutce lunches, expensive artworks, Armani suits, Bally alligator shoes, and other trophies. Schwartz essays a little false humility, but the book's evasive charm is based on chutzpah. In an effort to leverage with OPM (other people's money), the author established his own hedge funds until investors (the bastards) pestered him about their money. Don't be surprised to learn the result was heart disease. Now in Florida, trading again for himself, the quondam Champion Trader reveals, with some repetition, his story. It moves nicely, though, with a certain egomaniacal verve. An appendix gives the author's daily schedule (e.g, ``7:20-7:30 Clean out the plumbing''). His investment methodology is also appended, but only the most devoted professional will utilize this rigorous lesson. An archetypal text, true to life on the Street, destined to be discussed over drinks at trader hangouts after the market closesand better than going tapioca. Marty Schwartz is a great trader, no doubt about it. Is he a legendary trader? No. Is he a champion trader? Yes. But how many trading contest winners do you know that have gone on to succesfully manage OPM as "Buzzy" likes to refer to it. Contests and real life have nothing in common with each other. How many of us have paper traded with good results only to find ourselves losing in "real-time". Schwartz is too arrogant. He claims to have out-traded George Soros, what nonsense!! George can crush him with a mere bat of an eyelash. Buzzy is a great trader for himself, but when it comes to OPM (other people's money), forget about it. No scalper is going to make money trading in huge size. Unless they are on the floor or they are Monroe Trout. The strategy section in the book is very thin. There are a few interesting tidbits, such as mid-month buying and so on, but nothing that will really help you in your trading. An amusing read overall. However, Schwartz really needs to get over himself, he is a great trader, but he should never make comparisons with himself and the "big boys"; he just ends up looking stupid.

FUN FUN FUN 20. Mai 2000
Format:Taschenbuch
If you've read "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" and enjoyed it, you'll love this book. Most investment books are dry and tedious to read. This book with it's many anecdotes kept me laughing and engaged for a week - I'm a slow reader.

It's Not a "how-to" which everyone wants but will probably never find. It's a true life account of a Market Wizard, his personality and his strugglies on his qwest to beat the markets. It's blunt, direct and very comical.

I've read a lot of books on the market and the same theme for winning runs thru all, hard work and finding your niche.

Read this book and enjoy it. Probably make for a great Robert Dinero movie.

Thanks Buzzy!
