Anyone who uses Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for image management, editing, and workflow knows it is great software, and it has only gotten better with each new version. But there comes a time in every Lightroom user’s life when they want to do something…and they just can’t do it. While Lightroom covers the vast majority of a photographer’s needs–many say it covers roughly 80% of a professional imaging workflow–it just can’t do everything a shooter needs to put the final touches on a great image.

Scott Kelby, the #1 bestselling author of photography books, wrote Photoshop for Lightroom Users exactly for those Lightroom users who have recognized that they need Photoshop  for the other 20% of their workflow, which will take their images to the next level. There is already a substantial audience for this book, and of course Adobe’s brand-new offering of a Lightroom and Photoshop Creative Cloud bundle for $9.99/month will certainly help grow this Lightroom-and-Photoshop audience very quickly in the coming months.

These users don’t need to know everything about Photoshop. They just need to know the essentials edits, techniques, retouching tutorials, and tweaks that they can’t perform in Lightroom, but which will take their images up a notch. Scott covers everything from compositing to adding text over an image to retouching to creating a book cover to advanced sharpening techniques. With Photoshop for Lightroom Users, readers will learn all they need to know in order to fold Photoshop into their imaging workflow with Lightroom.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not For Photoshop Beginners 6. Januar 2014
Von Conrad J. Obregon - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (not to be confused with just "Adobe Photoshop") is a great piece of software that allows photographers not just to catalog their work, or turn it into all kinds of media, but to process their raw files to adjust color and tonality to make their photographs look like their vision. The interface is a lot easier to use then its big brother Photoshop but there are things that are harder to do in Lightroom, like make local adjustments to a part of the image, or that can't be done at all, like join images to make a panorama. That's why a lot of photographers use both pieces of software to process their images.

Scott Kelby's "Photoshop for Lightroom Users" looks just like the knowledge store to allow Lightroom users to learn how to use the senior software to do those things Lightroom can't do. The book starts with a very quick walk-through of Photoshop tools like selections, layers and cloning. There is a chapter on moving images back and forth between Lightroom and Photoshop and some of the Photoshop tools that are not available in Lightroom like panorama creation and high dynamic range processing. Additional chapters show how to retouch portraits, create composites, apply special effects and sharpen images. There is even a chapter explaining effects that you don't have to go into Photoshop to achieve.

Kelby's tutorials are masterful, taking you step by illustrated step to achieve a result, and there is even a website with the images used in the tutorials that can be downloaded to follow the tutorial on your own computer. I learned how to more effectively use a few tools that I thought I had mastered.

The big however is that the instructions are inadequate if you are a beginner who wants to learn how to use Photoshop. For example, when it comes to creating layers, selections, adjustment layers and masks that will allow the image globally processed in Lightroom to be locally adjusted, the material is condensed to just a few paragraphs and not all of the adjustment layers are even covered. Better for the photographer new to Photoshop to get a good Photoshop introductory text, and learn how to transfer images back and forth between Lightroom and Photoshop in a Lightroom text.

Rather than teaching the reader how to use Photoshop, Kelby ends up providing us with a series of tips on how to perform specific tasks, like straighten teeth in a portrait. Normally I dislike tip books, but the quality of the tutorials that explain these tips is so high that I found some that might help even a more experienced user. The problem is that there is not enough information here for the beginning or intermediate user to learn how to use Photoshop to improve Lightroom-processed images. If you are a Lightroom user looking to learn Photoshop, this is a bad place to start. A more experienced Photoshop user might benefit from going through the tutorials, to find out Kelby's suggested methods for accomplishing more complex tasks, and perhaps discover a few worthwhile tips, but he or she will have to wade through a lot of fundamental material, which, while not adequate as an introduction to Photoshop, will seem like old hat to that experienced user.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Just what I was waiting for.... 25. Dezember 2013

As a long time purchaser Kelby products and follower of Scott, I have been hoping for just this book. For those of us who need to know "Just the Basics" this book hits the SPOT. I have suggested it to all of my photog friends who are afraid of Photoshop!

This book covers:

1. The basics "Tools" available in Photoshop and how they work. Specifically the tools that are important to Photographers. Including essential Keyboard Shortcuts, Navigation and other techniques.

2. How to do a "Round Trip" with your image file from Lightroom to Photoshop and back to Lightroom again. Which is very important for library and catalog management.

3. Making Pano's and HDR pictures as well as using Smart Objects.

4. Critical Basic "Re-Touching" techniques to clean up your pictures. Including Facial Symmetry, Eyebrow Control, Improving "Eyes", Skin softening and cleaning, Teeth whitening. All the most important pieces of "Airbrushing" a portrait.

5. Blending and Combining Images. Including adding a logo or putting a picture inside a picture.

6. Creating effects like Tilt Shift, High Contrast, Reflections, replacing Sky (Clouds), Typography Effects.

7. How to Sharpen images, the right way (we all need this!)

8. Other "Problem" areas we all need to know how to fix.

This is a purchase you will not regret and is a quick and easy FAST read. I burned through it quickly to see what it had to offer, and I Can't wait to dive into my library of images and apply these techniques. This is the book we have all be waiting for!

Way to go Scott!

P.S. The kindle version is absolutely useable on a iPad or Kindle for the computer. I know some times that can be a problem!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Offers useful information that will facilitate image processing in combined usage of these two powerful applications 29. Dezember 2013
Von Helpful Advice - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
"Photoshop for Lightroom Users" by Scott Kelby is another extremely useful guide for Lightroom users written by proven expert.

As a longtime fan of amateur photography that I consider my favorite hobby, some time ago I discovered Lightroom application that has proven as an excellent choice for managing collections of images and various modifications in terms of their improving.
That was also the reason why I heard about Scott Kelby due to his books "Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers" that I began to regularly follow with each new version of the application due to author's great knowledge and rich experience that he nicely presented in his guides.

In this edition, Kelby decided to address other known application for image processing - Photoshop, that is probably the most commonly associated with various modifications that can be made with any photo.
Of course, in order to completely present such complex application as the Photoshop that would require lot of space, so the author has made an excellent choice to limit his guide on those Photoshop options and features that will be most beneficial to Lightroom users.
But that doesn't mean that he covered only basic options, just the opposite, because in some areas the author has gone deep into Photoshop functions, offering very useful information that will facilitate image processing in combined usage of these two applications.

He started his guide with coverage of essential Photoshop functionalities, keeping it simple that makes it suitable even for first time Photoshop users; he explains why and when to use Photoshop instead or combined with Lightroom; following large chapter is devoted for re-touch capabilities for which Photoshop is well known; particularly interesting part is one about removing the unwanted from the images, adding new elements to the photos or blending multiple images; next, he introduced numerous cool side effects to reader and ends his quide with issues of image sharpness and all that is connected with it.

So if you need a manual for Photoshop being already seasoned Lightroom user, this book can be totally recommended - except handling all that you'll need from Photoshop, the guide greatly connects these two applications demonstrating how their combined use can be beneficial.
With "Photoshop for Lightroom Users" Scott Kelby once again demonstrated his expertise so I eagerly await his next works.

What the title does not tell you is that it is for Photoshop Creative Cloud. So if you have Photoshop CS6 you can't do all the tutorials.

Not what I expected. If I did not already use photoshop I would be lost. I thought would have been great for people with no photoshop knowledge but that is not true. You need to know a lot of photoshop to use this book. Not what I expected.
