5.0 von 5 Sternen If You Do Not Brand Yourself, the World Will 16. Juli 2014
Von Thomas M. Loarie - Veröffentlicht auf
I have been co-leading a Danville (CA) ministry focused on coaching executives, managers, and professionals in-transition since the crash of 2001. Our weekly meetings consist of workshops and speakers addressing personal brand development, networking, interviewing, and much more. Michael Breen, former SVP, Brand Strategy, Lowe and Partners, serves as our branding expert and teacher.

Chritton's "Personal Branding for Dummies" provides a great introductory overview of personal branding. She covers all the bases, explains cutting-edge approaches for marketing one's brand, and makes the most important point of all, "establishing yourself as a (subject matter) expert," or as one of our speakers, author Jack Reed, said, "be the one eyed giant in the land of the blind."

Chritton has organized "Personal Branding" around five chapters:
1. Why is personal branding important
2. Knowing your brand
3. Communicating your brand with the world
4. Controlling your brand ecosystem
5. The Part of Tens (four sets of 10 things to do or not to do to protect your brand)

The one weakness of this book is the absence of reference books (and there are many good ones) to use for delving deeper into subject areas of interest. We recommend Loehr's "The Power of Story" to help in aligning gifts with passions to insure the "story" lived is the right story and not someone else's, like one's parents; Rath's (Gallup) "StrengthsFinders 2.0" to help people with identifying and articulating their strengths; and Schwerdtfeger's "Marketing Short-Cuts" which has a step-by-step, how to integrate blogs, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc. into any marketing campaign - personal or company.

I will add Chritton's book to our list of recommended books for participants, and then direct them to others which will provide more depth in key topics. There is no doubt that "Personal Branding for Dummies" is for dummies and is not for branding experts. This much needed book will get people off the dime; getting them to think about, develop, and protect their personal brand.

As our great teacher, Mike Breen, says, "If you don't figure out how to brand yourself, the world will...and you will bear the consequences."

5.0 von 5 Sternen Highly Recommended 14. März 2015
Von Mike Kresch - Veröffentlicht auf
If you reach a point in your life where you realize that you've neglected your personal brand, and need to do some introspection, hard work, you can immediately get yourself on the right track with Susan Chritton's book. It's very comprehensive, highly educational, and "speaks" to you in a very comforting way - much as I would imagine it's like to sit in her office as she coaches. Highly recommended, money well spent.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Personal Branding Bible! 29. Juli 2014
Von Rachel Gogos - Veröffentlicht auf
This book is a must-read for anyone who wants to better understand what their personal brand is, identify their brand attributes, develop a personal marketing plan that will help them portray themselves authentically and then how to actually implement it. It's full of actionable steps that you can take on your own or, you can partner with friend to bounce ideas off of. The book also serves as a compilation of some of the best and brightest that are practicing and preaching personal branding. It's super helpful to have so many tips and tools from other experts wrapped up into one book yet presented thoroughly and clearly through Susan Chritton's perspective. As a book contributor I couldn't be more proud of the final product.

It's truly the modern day personal branding bible.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fun, engaging, information-rich - the perfect personal branding book for beginners and experts! 16. Juli 2014
Von Tara Kachaturoff - Veröffentlicht auf
Personal Branding for Dummies offers an abundance of information for entrepreneurs and careerists alike. Written in a casual, conversational tone, this book immediately speaks to the reader whether he or she is a beginner or expert. While many of the examples do relate to careerists, there's plenty of content that applies equally to entrepreneurs. The underlying personal brand concepts, principles and exercises are applicable to anyone eager to unearth their true unique expression of who they are and what they do.

The author starts with foundational material that aids the reader in understanding what personal branding is and why it's important. Defining who you are, understanding your target audience, crafting a personal brand profile and writing your story round out several content-rich chapters. This is followed by several more filled with an abundance of resources, examples, tools, tips and ideas to facilitate communicating your personal brand to the world.

Rounding this out are chapters focused on managing your brand for the long-term including information on personal appearance, creating a visual image online, networking and additional insight for careerists who want to maintain their standout personal brand while being employed in their chosen profession.

With contemporary examples, anecdotes and expert opinions sprinkled throughout, combined with insightful exercises designed to help one navigate, step-by-step, the somewhat daunting process of unearthing one's true value, Personal Branding for Dummies lightens the journey to make the process both fun and engaging.

My personal recommendation for using this book is to first read it quickly, making notes along the way, and then re-read it and work through all the exercises completely and thoroughly.

I will use this book with my clients and recommend it both for those who are exploring this material for the first time as well as for those who may be seeking to refresh already strong, established personal brands. Furthermore, this is the perfect book for coaches, consultants and others who work on various aspects of personal branding with their own clients.

Disclosure: I, Tara Kachaturoff, am a contributing author to this book. I wrote a couple pages on developing your personal brand on television - from preparing for your TV debut through following up after the show. Review of the 2012 paperback edition.

Then you need to gain a firm understanding of your value in the marketplace by defining, communicating and building your personal brand.

Susan Chritton leads her powerhouse new book, Personal Branding for Dummies®, with this wisdom:

"Why is personal branding important?

It allows you to show the world your best true self. It helps you align every part of your life with your characteristics, strengths, values, and goals. By doing so, you create a meaningful, lasting impression on everyone you meet. That impression can translate into success on the job, in a new business, and in every aspect of your life."

This definitive how-to book is packed with worksheets, exercises and working examples to help you. Susan has laid out a program to follow through from initial "Who am I?" questions, to writing your brand communications content and broadcasting it to the world.
