Review after reading the book at school
am 12. Februar 2009
Our class has read the novel "The Body" by Stephen King. The book from 1982 deals with four 12-year-old boys, the first-person-narrator Gordie, his best friend Chris, and two other not very close friends Vern and Teddy, who experience finding a dead body.
The story is based on Stephen King's own childhood and takes place in a small town called Castle Rock.
By chance, the boys find out about where the dead body of a missed child, called Ray Brower, is. They start to make plans to find the boy because they want to become famous. Finally they decide to walk along the train tracks. On their way they often get in danger, for example when they are nearly hit by a train. At last, when they think they have come to an end of their journey, there suddenly appear more complications.
It is a long, adventurous and exhausting journey. The narrator Gordie learns to know what you call real friends and that especially his relationship to Chris is really close.
The book "The body" has some positive and some negative aspects. First we name the good things about the novel.
The structure is not too complicated and the language is easily understandable for the reader. Furthermore, the story is very touching when Gordie and his best friend Chris talk about their problems and family situations which arenŽt easy for them. In this part and other emotional parts of the book the reader feels with the two main characters and he can understand their emotions.
Moreover, special characters come across as being very likable. They are all different, so they get interesting for the reader.
As a last positive point, the book is suitable for people who have just started to learn English.
The negative aspects about "The Body" are that itŽs just realistic for boys and girls at the age of the characters and that they are the only persons who can really identify with them.
Furthermore, in some situations, there is no tension and some pages are boring because of the missing action. ThatŽs why the reader sometimes has no fun to go on with reading the book.
Out of 5 stars we would give the novel 3 ones.
