Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

"The secret to happiness is to let go of everything - see through every assumption."

Beginning at a young age Joey Lott experienced intensifying anxiety. For several decades he lived with restrictive eating disorders, obsessions, compulsions, and an inescapable fear. By the time he was 30 years old he was physically sick, emotionally volatile, and mentally obsessed with keeping any and all unwanted thoughts and experiences at bay.

At this time Lott was living on a futon mattress in a tiny cabin in the woods. He was so sick that he could barely move. He was deeply depressed and hopeless. All this despite doing all the "right" things such as years of meditation, yoga, various "perfect" diets, clean air, and pure water.

Just when things were at their most dire, a crack appeared in the conceptual world that had formerly been mistaken for reality. By peering into this crack and underneath all the assumptions that had been unquestioned up to that moment, Lott began a great undoing. The revelation of this undoing is that reality is utterly simple, ever-present, seamless, and indivisible.

Lott's books provide a glimpse into the seamless, simple, and joyous nature of reality, offering a glimpse through the crack in conceptual worlds. Whether writing about the ultimate non-dual nature of reality, eating disorders, stress, disease, or any other subject, he offers the invitation to look at things differently, leaving behind the old, out-grown, painful limitations we have used to bind ourselves in suffering. And then, he welcomes you home to the effortless simplicity of yourself as you are.

Not sure where to begin? Pick up a copy of Lott's most popular book, You're Trying Too Hard, which strips away all the concepts that keep us searching for a greater, more spiritual, more peaceful life or self.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Awesome 14. Mai 2014

Just what I needed to read! Pulled myself out of the obsession and back into listening to my body. Love ray peats work and will always follow his guidelines but this book reminded me that the stress of obsessing about it negates any benefits. I've been having negative effects from overdoing the dairy the last couple of weeks but ignoring the signs because it is what I 'should' be doing. Listen to your bodies people!

I'm really concerned that Mr. Lott did not get any sort of permission from Dr. Peat to create this title. I skimmed the contents -- it's more a sort of long forum post about what he thinks about the ideas of Ray Peat.

I'd feel much more comfortable that this title existed if I knew Dr. Peat had endorsed this book or was anywhere inside of it, even in a short paragraph stating that he was aware that Joey Lott had put this book out. Dr. Peat is living and is easily reachable by email, and works tirelessly to assist people who want to know more about his work, for free. I'm a little worried that while Peat is offering firsthand advice, Joey Lott is capitalizing on this man's research to make a quick buck.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great summary! 2. Juni 2014

So like many, I have read and absorbed and whatnot every nutritional dogma out there. And it is dogma. The proverbial "my way or the highway" kind of thinking. You just get tired of it.
So along comes Ray Peat and his way of thinking. Although it is not the easiest to grasp (very technical) he did make me think that so much of what we are told is "right" and "healthy" and "good for you" (how many of us have rolled our eyes when hearing that from a well meaning person, yes, but there is so much more to it) are not necessarily so. And things that are "wrong" and "unhealthy" and "bad for you" are not necessarily so either.
But then, it got discouraging yet again when I realized that people in the Peat camp were....uh....dogmatic about it! And that is why I cannot recommend this brilliant little 42 page dissertation by Joey Lott enough. It is 42 pages packed with what you need to know about Ray Peat and his ideas while at the same time encouraging you to not just believe all of it or none of it, but to experiment, tweak, etc his ideas until you find what works for you.
Buy it, download it to your reader, and you will realize the all of 15 minutes it takes to get through it is well worth it!

2.0 von 5 Sternen Essentially a waste (of fortunately not a lot) of money 31. Oktober 2014

Essentially a waste (of fortunately not a lot) of money. He tells you the things Peat says can be helpful that most say are harmful (OJ, dairy, etc.). The thing is - we already know this about Peat, and that's what's so fascinating. He gives no "guide" as to his recommendations, other than - maybe it's good for you, maybe it's not, just see how your body reacts... As if you wouldn't do that anyway. Again, it is not a a "guide" at all, unless you really need someone to tell you that if you don't do well with Peat's recommendations, you should discontinue them. I was very excited to read this book, then totally let down. And the book as a whole is probably about 20 "real" pages, as it's around 75 pages in about 20 font size. I would have given it 0 stars, but that's not an option - and for 1 star Amazon labels it as "hate it" - I'm not a hater...

5.0 von 5 Sternen Must Read! 30. Juni 2014
Von RICHARD ALLEN - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
I couldn’t have asked for a better digest of Ray Peat’s work. Peat has a lot of great material, but I was frustrated wading through it all trying to pin down answers to various questions, and at times even to pin him down on his own views. Joey Lott skillfully cuts through Peat’s scholarly data to find the essence of that scientist’s ideas. For readers wanting more particulars, citations, or in-depth defense/rebuttal of Peat's beliefs: That’s exactly what Joey has neither done nor intended to do; this book is exactly what it purports to be: a summary of Lott’s best understanding of Peat’s concepts (colored of course by his own views). (If you want the minutiae, you can go to Peat’s own website—which I do recommend for those who like to do their own digging. There you will find an overabundance of details and references, and enough analysis to keep you busy for many a day.)
