Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Dave Lloyd is a 4th generation Montanan whose great-grandmother came up the Yellowstone on a steamboat to the head-of-track outside Miles City. She knew and told her family stories of the men and the women who lived at the time. Dave grew up listening to her and his grand-mother, the first white baby born in the county, as they reminisced of that era's rowdy times. As a young man, Dave was a working cowboy and became assistant ranch-manager on one of the largest ranches in the state. Western Cattle Company, with hundreds of sections of land and cattle numbering in the thousands. Life on the ranch in the cold Montana winters convinced him to get a college education, after which he worked as a teacher, then principal, then superintendent in various high schools. Lloyd researches his books, and makes them historically accurate, with their characters true to the times. Gun enthusiasts will enjoy reading about the Sharps, Winchester rifles and other firearms used by the people in Lloyd's saga. He lives in Helena, Montana with his wife, Donna and continues to write of the early beginnings of the state he loves.

Lots of action in this book. I'll bet it was exactly like the novel portrays the old west. I'm not a gun buff, but the interesting bits about the various rifles and pistols of the times added some interest too...I had read all of Lloyd's books when they were only available in hardbound leather so I'm glad they are now cheap enough and online so I can buy them for friends. Just bought the first three volumes of the saga for a fellow we know. Hope the last book of the saga goes online soon so I can buy it for him for Christmas, but the books are stand alones, so they don't have to be read in order.

Continued good story from The Rebels, book 1. The characters, Frank and Matthew are true to life and realistic. It was full of action and there's a very surprising (and unexpected) twist in store for one of the main characters. Lloyd shows the tough times people went through to settle the west.Toby and Cappy add so much to the lives of the old men and Lloyd is able to convey that to the reader. Great descriptions of the land, the horses, the weapons, put the reader there.

Could have used a good proofreader or editor to catch the numerous errors, but the story was good enough that I overlooked them.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Real Western! 24. Januar 2014
Von Brett C. - Veröffentlicht auf
I've read all of Dave Lloyd's books in the order that they were written and am thrilled to see them finally offered here on Amazon. Pardners, like all of his books, is a fantastic read. Lloyd is a great story teller. He gives his reader enough detail to set the scene without being burdened by unnecessary minutia and he drives the story along with entertaining dialogue so real one can almost hear the speakers' voices. Another thing that sets Lloyd apart from many western writers is the fact that he isn't formulaic in his books. He lets the story go where it needs to, where it should, and he doesn't shelter the reader from the reality of the times. Life was hard in those days, and so were the people, they had to be to survive. Lloyd gets that and his characters are more believable because of it. If you are a fan of historical fiction that is both accurate and entertaining, give this book a good read!
