This dictionary is the "best" 25. März 2011
Von Paul Henderson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

If you need a dictionary that gives more words than you'll ever need across all genres, ie technical, everyday, artistic, scientific etc etc, then this dictionary is for you. About the only downside that I would mention is it's size. This is NOT a travel dictionary, and the print is quite small for those of us who wear glasses. But for sheer scale of coverage of content, you won't be likely to ever need more than is contained in this edition.

The Best Advanced Dictionary 7. Februar 2011
Von John Danaher - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Verifizierter Kauf
This is the best Italian advanced dictionary I have used (I have the Collins and the Barrons also). The number of examples and sentences provided for each word is excellent. As a learner of Italian, it is not enough to know the meaning of a word, you need to understand the contexts in which it is used and the idioms it is used with. This dictionary excels at providing that deeper understanding which allows you to get comfortable with the language.

Worth the money 8. Februar 2011
Von Mark E - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This dictionary is well worth the money. It's certainly not a carry-around dictionary due to its size, but its a great reference. It offers clear and concise definitions and covers many idomatic italian expressions. It has a full list of verb conjugations at the back of the book, and throughout the book, for key verbs, nouns, prepositions, conjunctions etc, it gives an indepth analysis between the italian and english use.

Excellent dictionary. 9. August 2011
Von Cas - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I have a portable-sized English-Italian dictionary right next to my desk for normal stuff, but for the esoteric terms, I turn to this Oxford-Paravia dictionary. So far it's had every single word I've tried to find, and more than a few I don't directly need for my historical research but which are cool to know (including, yes, profane terms, and don't try to tell me we don't all look those up just to see if they're in there). I haven't yet been disappointed with this dictionary and I've been using it intensely for a while now.

Make no mistake, this is a HUGE book, heavy and like 3.5" thick. The pages are on thin paper, packing in thousands of pages of words, words, words. The typeface used is easy to navigate, not too big nor too small a font, with intense blue sans serif font for the word itself, black serif font for the definitions. Italics and bolding are used to further clarify and add to meanings. Each word is given a phonetic pronunciation guide, which a non-speaker will find highly useful. It's easy to use and navigate, which is welcome.

The dictionary makers include a how-to guide at the beginning along with pronunciation guides. At the end, there are examples of how to properly write personal and business letters of various kinds in both English and Italian, including "snapshots" of how to arrange the addresses and dates. I wasn't expecting that kind of information out of a dictionary, and it's very interesting to see. I wish the dictionary makers had thought to number their pages to make it easier to find this info, though!

Overall 5 stars out of 5. Excellent dictionary for those times when a "general" smaller dictionary just doesn't do the trick.

Paravia Italian-English Dictionary 20. Februar 2011

This was a great purchase, for me. The dictionary is big and comprehensive. I have others but when I really need to choose which word is best among several options, this reference is my guide. It is easy to use, and the examples are very helpful indeed.
