Kurzbeschreibung

Mai 2014 Oxford Library of Psychology
In recent decades there has been a shift in focus from psychological and social problems-what might be called the "dark side" of humanity-to human well-being and flourishing. The Positive Psychology movement, along with changes in attitudes toward organisational and societal health, has generated a surge of interest in human happiness. The Oxford Handbook of Happiness is the definitive text for researchers and practitioners interested in human happiness. Its editors and chapter contributors are world leaders in the investigation of happiness across the fields of psychology, organizational behaviour, education, philosophy, social policy and economics. The study of happiness is at the nexus of four major scientific developments: the growing field of Positive Psychology which researches the conditions that make people flourish; advances in the biological and affective sciences which have contributed to the understanding of positive emotions; Positive Organizational Scholarship, an emerging discipline aimed at investigating and fostering excellence in organisations; and findings from economics indicating that traditional markers of economic and societal well-being are insufficient. The Oxford Handbook of Happiness offers readers a coherent, multi-disciplinary, and accessible text on the current state-of-the-art in happiness research. This volume features ten sections that focus on psychological, philosophical, evolutionary, economic and spiritual approaches to happiness; happiness in society, education, organisations and relationships; and the assessment and development of happiness. Readers will find information on psychological constructs such as resilience, flow, and emotional intelligence; theories including broaden-and-build and self-determination; and explorations of topics including collective virtuousness, psychological capital, coaching, environmental sustainability and economic growth. This handbook will be useful to academics, practitioners, teachers, students, and all those interested in theory and research on human happiness.

5.0 von 5 Sternen an amazing compendium 1. Oktober 2013
Von B. Fryer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
This amazing, hefty and intellectually weighty volume is a one-stop shop for all the current research on happiness and well being, springing from the Positive Psychology movement as well as the Gross National Happiness (GNH) movement born in Bhutan. It covers every corner of the compendium, from individual psychology to philosophy, from religion and spirituality to organizations, from history and education to society, from relationships to interventions. While many of the articles in this collection are academic and are thoroughly footnoted, there is plenty to appeal to the layperson -- fascinating perspectives on the art of living well, wonderful summaries of the perspectives of 19th and 20th-century philosophers, and a much deeper and broader consideration of what happiness means in terms of well-being and life satisfaction than the trivial-sounding soundbites that saturate the media and most public discourse. This work will be infinitely useful to psychologists, educators, theologians, philosophers as well as organizational behavior and human resource professionals and serious-minded executives, as well as to any high-minded person who wants to better the world. Come prepared to take deep dives, and come away refreshed and heartened.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Extraordinary achievement 31. Oktober 2013
Von Katherine Weare - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Anyone who dismisses work on 'happiness' as dangerous, soft and indulgent and leading to the creation of a narcissistic and hedonistic generation of self centred infants, should get hold of this volume to start to appreciate the challenge, rigor, complexity and ethical nature of any serious work to develop authentic happiness. This handbook is a comprehensive compendium of contributions from the leading global experts in disciplines such as psychology, philosophy, economics, organisational theory, education, and spirituality who are concerned to explore the implications of focusing on happiness and its solid constituent parts, such as resilience, positivity, compassion, engagement, connectedness and the search for meaning. It forms a landmark achievement, a goldmine of cutting edge work and thinking about what it is going to take to push the human race towards a more satisfying and authentic relationship with itself and the rest of the planet.
Katherine Weare, Emeritus Professor, School of Psychology, University of Exeter, School of Education, University of Southampton, UK.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An Instant Classic In Its Field 8. September 2013
Von Ruth Ann Harnisch - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Verifizierter Kauf
A must for the professional library. This comprehensive tome is packed with information useful to every psychologist, social worker, professional coach, and psychiatrist. Disclosure: I'm thanked in the acknowledgments because I'm the founding funder of the Institute of Coaching. Susan David is a founder and Co-Director of the Institute. Both the Institute and this book serve to advance the science of human happiness. The Oxford Handbook is a welcome addition to the literature.
