Bokashi Composting

Kitchen scraps to Black Gold in a few short weeks

Bokashi is a Japanese term for "fermented organic matter" that is a safe, quick, hassle free and convenient way to compost in your very own domicile. It does not matter if you live in an apartment, house, boat or even a tent. If you generate kitchen scraps and have room for a small bucket, you now have the ability to compost all kitchen scraps (including meats, dairy, fat and fish) quickly and efficiently right in your own home. This is accomplished in a sealed environment, which eliminates the rank odor of rotting materials and without those pesky bugs or flies.

The Bokashi system uses a special selection of microorganisms that anaerobic ally ferment the food scraps. This fermentation process is very fast and the finished pickled product is generally ready in two weeks to be applied to whatever use you may want. You can put it in your existing compost pile, feed it to your worms in your worm bin, make supercharged potting soil or bury it in your garden. It is up to you.

The Bokashi method was first introduced about 40 years ago. It has experienced a rapid acceptance and expansion worldwide. Unfortunately, it still relatively unknown in the US, but that is quickly changing.

In this volume, you will be introduced to the method of

Bokashi composting, including the how to, where to and when to and results of the system. For example:

  • You will discover the history behind this accidentally discovered, amazing yet simple system.

  • You will learn how to quickly and easily get started with the Bokashi system.

  • You will learn how to save money by making your own tools and supplies from locally available supplies.

  • You will discover the many uses of the various products you can create with what you will learn in this book.

  • You will learn to make lactobacillus and the many uses for it.

Remember, your soil is a living thing, and when properly fed, can produce amazing results.

Now is your chance to get started on saving money and increasing the size and quality of your organic harvests.

This essential guide is a must-have read and reference for anyone who wishes to turn formerly un-useable waste products into black gold for gardens, composting systems, vermicomposters, container growers and anyone that wishes to help keep waste out of our landfills.

5.0 von 5 Sternen I can't wait to try it! 11. November 2013

I had never heard of Bokashi composting before I read this book. I have a regular composter, a black bin that sits on the edge of my yard, and when I remember, I throw scraps into it, but it takes SO long to break down into compost that I forget it. I've never gone much further than that, although I know my garden would benefit tremendously from home made compost, more even than the compost I buy every year.

Bokashi composting is quicker than traditional composting, and I am so excited to try it! I had never heard of Bokashi composting before, so when I saw it, I knew I needed to read it. I found the book to be interesting and full of useful information. Bokashi uses a fermented bran to help the composting process.

Instead of relying on the natural breakdown process, or buying a compost accelerator which is chemically based and not something I want to use, the bran is natural and uses natural microbes to help speed up the composting process. I also appreciated that the author talked a bit about making compost tea, because in my opinion, the tea you can make from compost is even more valuable to the garden than the compost itself.

I recommend highly to anyone who is interested in composting.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A thorough book 25. Januar 2014

This book talks about a very specific topic, Bokashi composting. It is a fermentation process for composting, a relatively new method that is not commonly used in the US. I have barely heard of it once or twice but had no opportunity to learn what it really is, until my friend recommended this book to me.

The author effectively explained what Bokashi composting is, from its origin to the rationale behind, from the advantages to actual instructions to implement. The DIY instructions are so detailed that once you finished reading it you can go to buy the stuff required and do it immediately. There are even tips on doing composting the low cost way. It is Bokashi composting from A to Z.

I definitely like the idea of Bokashi composting. It is more effective in terms of retaining the nutrients than traditional composting. The method is easy to implement, quick to set up and cheap.

If you are new to composting or you want to try the new Bokashi method, this is a book you should read.

5.0 von 5 Sternen New better way of gardening 6. Januar 2014

I love gardening and this book was very interesting and useful for me. This book shows us amazing tricks how to do it better and even most important, how to do it healthier.

Bokashi composting is a special way of composting. In the process our waste is converted into a high-grade organic soil without polluting. This system uses fermentation process and traditional composting uses oxidation. Bokashi compost contains more available nutrients to the plants than traditional compost.

Important chapters are abundantly equipped with photos and detailed description of the process. The process seems very promising and if you grow plants you should definitely try it.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Bokashi Composting Explained Thoroughly 4. Januar 2014

Bokashi Composting is a new technique that I was introduced to from a friend so I wanted to do some reading up on it to learn more about it. Mike O’Halloron writes in an easy to understand and clear manner. I learned a lot about Bokashi composting throughout this book and I found the book to be a great guidebook. The book went through the differences in Bokashi composting, the history of this technique, and even does a step by step breakdown of how to make my own Bokashi set up. I really liked how the author goes into detail in the Do It Yourself section. I was able to just buy things from his list and set it up within a short span of time.

The Bokashi method itself works wonders for me. I am able to compost inside my house, and I don’t have to worry about what not to put into my composting set up. It makes things very pain free and easy, so I’m able to compost away with any stress. I think if you’re new to the Bokashi method, or you want to change up your composting to include more items, this book is for you.

I appreciated being able to read a comprehensive overview of Bokashi composting. After reading the book I felt well informed about what this recycling technique involves (although I don't plan to do it).
