5.0 von 5 Sternen Organic Food Gardening Beginner's Manual 29. Mai 2012

This book is great! Easy to read, step by step instructions. It even tells you how to start your own compost, which is something I will definitely try now. I have gardened in the past but I never thought about the no dig method. I am going to give that a try too. I recommend this book to both beginners and those of us who think we know a thing or two about gardening! Two "Green" Thumbs Up!!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not quite what I expected 15. Mai 2013

Despite having read a bunch of the previous reviews, the book was not quite what I was looking for. I'm a rookie gardener and was looking for some practical advice about how to grow veggies w/o needing to dump a bunch of chemicals on them. Advice like, "don't plant tomatoes next to peppers or your peppers won't grow" or "horse poo makes the best addition to your dirt," things like that. I guess I was looking for practical advice that could be implemented immediately. Instead, this book is a well written description of how to prepare and cultivate a garden over a long time--composting, raised bed gardening, making your own fertilizer. This is probably a great addition to a collection of books about gardening, but maybe not the most practical guide to start with.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Ultimate Guide for Creating and Managing an Organic Garden 26. Mai 2012
Von Techno3 - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
For those of us who are concerned with the chemicals in the regular produce, going organic is the only option. Although organic produce is the healthier alternative, it can get very expensive. One of the best way to get around this is to create your own organic garden.

That is where this book comes in. It is extremely well laid out and covers all the basics that even the most inexperienced gardener can use to create and maintain an organic garden.

It covers topics such as finding the best area to grow the veggies, building healthy and fertile soil in a cost effective way, 9 tips to transplanting seeds, tips for watering the garden, how to make a compost, how to make fertilizer and much, much more..

The ebook has fully functional TOC and formatted perfectly for the kindle device thereby providing a pleasant reading experience.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An answer for all my questions and then some! 26. Mai 2012

Litteraly it did just that! This manual was easy to read and contained the appropriate information for any beginner setting up their first organic garden. I have only begun gardening seriously in the last 4 yrs and this manual will help me considerably. I want to do things the right way and I was just about to give up gardening totally when last year hardly anything produced. My tomatos didn't grow and the cukes died. The only things I got to grow was carrots and onions. And then some of the carrots were white and not orange. I am now inspired to give it another whirl and with living in a very rural area I can create a large compost area. Thank you from a WI Northern Star

5.0 von 5 Sternen not just for beginning gardners; I finally understand compost & soil 4. Juni 2012

As an "intermediate" gardener who has had a small urban organic food garden for 3 years, I ordered this book not sure if it would show me anything new or really useful since it says that it's for beginners. We had a small yield last summer, and had slugs come calling, so I was hoping to find ways to address these issues. What I found is that it's filled with clear, step by step very useful information for organic gardeners at any level.

I haven't seen this good of a detailed, helpful description of how to create and use compost anywhere else, even though we are Mother Earth News subscribers, and read a lot online. I took a couple of the suggestions and added finished compost to my strawberry bed about 3 weeks ago, and the plants are loaded with berries - I just ate 3 juicy strawberries this morning (early for us here in MN). I also found the whole section on natural ways to reduce and get rid of pests really helpful.
It didn't matter that this author lives in Australia; it was easy to translate the information to my zone here in Minneapolis, MN.

I appreciated that she addressed us urban gardeners with smaller spaces, even though she has room for a large garden. It hadn't occurred to me to choose what to plant in my small space based on what would be the most expensive to buy. I realized that organic sweet bell peppers are very expensive, so we added additional pepper plants this year. I figure this tip alone paid for the book! I'll be looking even more closely now at what we can add to the garden next year - I'm considering adding a small fruit tree, and more blueberry bushes and raspberries. Well worth it!
