5.0 von 5 Sternen Very interesting book on OpenLayers 12. Oktober 2012
Von GeoDeFelix - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This book presents the OpenLayers API describing solutions and optimizations as well as a comprehensive and wide range of ready-to-use recipes for the most common and important tasks related web mapping.
As the title can easily suggest, the approach utilized inside the book follows a problem-solution way for addressing to some crucial tasks, besides a good number of practical examples are accompanied by the necessary code and screenshots.
Although I believe that the book would be useful also for newbies of the matter, I think it is more oriented towards GIS-related professional developers with some basic knowledge of web technologies and want to start or gain in-depth knowledge of creating web mapping applications.
Among necessary skills needed there are a basic comprehension of HTML, CSS style sheet and JavaScript, moreover in the examples is widely used the Dojo toolkit framework for creating rich application, but its use is aimed just to make easier the building of some features and shouldn't be a drawback for the users which doesn't know it, since they could simply skip to understand that part of the code.
The book seems to be done very accurately, being broken into logical chapters from a GIS developer perspective, covering progressively a broad range of topics, from the basics, as for example very generic web mapping basics and raster and vector formats, to the advanced ones like the use of OpenLayers controls and working with OpenLayers events.
In conclusion, I consider this book could be very useful for a wide range of people which either is approaching to the web mapping matters or are very experienced web mapping developers, although probably is more oriented towards those have at least a basic knowledge of the web mapping matter and technologies.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Great intro book. 16. Juni 2014

I work for a County government as the GIS (computer mapping) guy. Our County is very sparsely populated, so we don't have a large budget, but we still need to supply our residents with all that we can. I've been working on setting up web maps; parcels, timber sales, motorized and non-motorized trails, and land sales. A combination of Geoserver, OpenLayers, JavaScript, jQuery, and jQuery Mobile on a VPS running CentOS makes a wonderful map.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A very practical book 23. Oktober 2012
Von Carlos Bello Pauste - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Great book! From the very beginning you can start solving common practical problems and increase your knowledge of the base concepts of OpenLayers progressively, recipe by recipe.

If you have a little or no knowledge of OpenLayers and you need to start using it, or you are using OpenLayers and need to speed up your results, or simply you get bored with the technicality and want something more practical... this book is for you.

Is it perfect? Of course no: I miss, for example, a recipe for reverse geocoding. However, the practical approximation of the concepts and the wide range of OpenLayers features covered, make of this one a great book.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Excelent book 16. Oktober 2012
