I never saw this series on tv. But I bought this dvd and thought to myself, what can I do wrong? It's a BBC-Production and it have so many very good reviews. It was elected to one of the best british comedy series.
But I was truly disappointed. It's a typical series from the 1980s. I never catch the humor of this decade. It's not funny to see an endless discussion about the name of an actor (is it Sydney Poitier or Potter - oh no, it's Harry Belafonte), the gag with an old second-hand car with backfire and much of smoke was even in the 80s an old gag.
And I miss the good acting of the performers, which you could see in all the actual british productions. Nicholas Lyndhurst is so much better in "After you've gone". He increased is acting. The only bright spot is Boycie (and I like him in "Green Green Grass"). But that's not enough for a good series.
I'm afraid I have to say, I'm one of few, who didn't like this series. I'm sorry. For everyone, who likes the 1980s, buy this series and have a lot of fun. For everyone else: don't lay your fingers on this dvd.
Perhaps I'll give one of the later dvd's a try...
