What Dylan fans call ‘The Never Ending Tour’ celebrated its 25th anniversary on June 7th 2013. Its time span already represents almost half of Dylan’s entire career and totals over 2,500 shows. Highly respected Dylan expert Andrew Muir documents the ups and downs of this unprecedented trek. Muir analyses and assesses Dylan's performances over the years, with special focus on many memorable shows. One More Night traces what it all means both in terms of Dylan’s artistic career and in the lives of the dedicated Dylan followers who collect recordings of every show and regularly cross the globe to catch up with the latest leg. Muir also includes the funny and affecting story of his own unforgettable meeting with Dylan. One More Night is part rock criticism, part cultural analysis, part scrutiny of fandom and paints a telling portrait of the Never Ending Tour and its importance in Dylan’s career.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Muir Delivers 9. September 2013

The book was fantastic, covering a less-documented portion of Dylan's career. It concerns the years 1988 - 2011, with brief notes on those years immediately preceding and following that period. Written from a fan's perspective, it is in a largely editorial format, so don't expect a lot of "objective" artistic criticism; the author makes no pretenses about the fact that his view is subjective and informed by his own experiences. His openness in this regard is actually illuminating, acting as a brief introduction to the circumstances that can make two listeners hear one performance in two completely different ways. Unfortunately, this leads to the years 2005 - 2009 receiving significantly less attention. Even so, this book comes highly recommended for fans of the Never-Ending Tour.

Apart from anything else, this book is essential for the two extra chapters
at the end. The story of the author meeting Dylan is a hilarious exercise in
self deprecation and the chapter on why Dylan tours should put to bed for
ever that irritating question.

This book reminds me a bit of the ones by the late, great Paul Williams. Less poetic, flowery and theoretical but similar in its ability to put you right in the middle of the action as Bob Dylan makes his way around the world, year after year, concert after concert. Andrew Muir has written a book that deserves to be on the bookshelf (or e-book reader) of any Bob fan. I had a special thrill in one chapter describing Bob's week-long residency at the Beacon Theater in New York, 1989. I've only seen Bob five times in concert, and two of those shows were during that week at the Beacon. Muir describes the first and last nights - and those were the ones I was at. Famous is the moment at the end of the final concert, when Bob jumped offstage and out a fire exit onto the streets of New York CIty. I was in the third row that night, and that strange, unexpected moment is one of my favorite Dylan memories. But I digress - the book is very good, and worth it just for the wonderful story in the appendix of the time the author actually met Bob at a diner.

Andy Muir offers a fine piece of work illuminating the trails and trevails blazed by Mr. Dylan. ~Muir is up there with Clinton Heylin as one of the best two Dylan biographers afoot. ~If you like Bob, do not deprive yourself of this fine tome. -The best elements I have heard from "Dylan-heads" commenting on shows comes together into one package under the auspices of Muir. He knows his material most thoroughly, yet he humbles his knowledge and talent to serve the subject. One of the finest books on Dylan to date.

I eagerly looked forward to reading this book and devoured the first couple of chapters. However, as I continued, boredom set in quickly. The chapters are all very repetitive. If you pick three chapters at random you'll have the essence of the book. Further, the book suffers from very poor editing. The author is not a great writer, but good editing could have fixed that. It also would have fixed the numerous grammatical errors and poor sentence structure. Finally, the author's idol worship of Dylan is immature and borders on the insane. It also got to be a bit much after the third chapter.
