After he becomes involved in an athletes’ protest, Cassidy is suspended from his track team. I read this book about ten years ago. It was only a matter of a week or two before it had been passed around to everyone on my x-c team. I've had three children since then, and am just beginning to get back into running again. This book came to mind, in almost a haunting way. Once a runner...well, it just becomes part of your soul.

Never before has a writer been able to capture the sport of running in words like John L. Parker Jr. Once A Runner is not just a great novel about running, but a great novel period. As a high school coach I give it to every serious runner I coach. As an English Major and voracious reader I recommend it to non-runners.

Great book, it was given to me by an older running friend, and I am definately glad that he did. I read it faster than I have ever read any other book...it was so vivid that it seemed like I was right there with Cassiday. Recommended to anyone and everyone.

john parker associates this book so closely to what running really feels like it is incredible, the best book I HAVE EVER READ!!!
