How far could you go in your sport if there wasn't anything holding you back?

What if there is a world-class athlete inside of you just waiting to come out?

Physical skill alone is not enough to deal with the demands of your sport. Knowing how to perform under pressure, tame the butterflies, and overcome setbacks are all essential if you want to be at the top of your game. Drawing on her work as a mental skills expert, Carrie Cheadle gives you the essential mental skills used by top athletes to perform consistently, remain confident under pressure, and successfully accomplish your athletic goals. On Top of Your Game offers specific mental training exercises that you can instantly use to improve your sport performance.

This book will help you learn how to:

  • Remain positive under pressure
  • Be mentally tough in the face of any challenge
  • Achieve more consistent results
  • Feel calm, confident, and ready to compete
  • Rekindle the excitement and love for your sport

You've trained your body and now it's time to train your mind. This book will teach you the step-by-step tools needed to be mentally tough and successfully face the challenges of training and competition. Get ready to perform to your potential.

“In my 30+ years in cycling I have had many opportunities to see extremely physically talented athletes fail to live up to their potential because they were never able to balance their physical talent with the mental side of sport. During that same time I have seen good athletes have championship winning performances due in part to their mental strength. Now more than ever, with so much information available to everyone instantaneously, many athletes tend to look everywhere except to themselves for improvement.

Carrie Cheadle’s “On Top Of Your Game” is a fantastic resource for every level of athlete from weekend warrior to World Champion who is looking to strengthen their mental game and thus improve performance by looking within. With an easy to read format, “Take-Aways” & “Tools” at the end of each chapter and the “...there is no right or wrong way” approach, Cheadle definitely has a winning book on her hands. Drawing on personal experience as well as the experiences of the many athletes she has worked with, a nice balance of real life and textbook examples is achieved to make easy understanding for everyone.”

“I started this book while going through an injury and when the first few pages opened up with a personal story by Carrie of overcoming an injury herself, I knew I was going to benefit from reading the rest! The way she uses her own journey as an athlete, and combines that with her extensive studies in sport psychology, makes this book a 'must have' for any level of athlete. We just don't give enough credit to the power of the mind. Don't be lazy! Read this wonderfully written piece of work and start the process now.”

5.0 von 5 Sternen On Top of Your Game is Great Guide for Sport and Life 20. November 2013

I am so excited about this book and am making it a Christmas present for so many people I know including business associates. Carrie speaks in terminolgy that an athlete or nonathlete can relate to with everyday examples of sport and life. The simple exercises offer tools for improvement, not just theories, so it is incredibly satisfying and well worth the money. The sport psychology world can seem complex from afar, but she brings it to a practical level and will help so many people by sharing her knowledge in "On Top of Your Game" and I plan to share that with my friends! As a lifelong equestrian I've dealt with every competition issue from butterflies to lack of focus in the show jumping arena to coming back after injury and failure--I wish I had this book then. I'm not competing today, but I do think it will be helpful in helping me regain the excitement and motivation for riding that has faded in recent years. Thanks Carrie!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Very Helpful book--got great results 12. Januar 2014

Having struggled for years with performance anxiety, when I committed to fly overseas to compete in the British Indoor Rowing Championships this fall I was determined to find a way to make sure race day nerves did not make it into a fiasco. Carrie's knowledge of the subject is extensive, but what I found most helpful were the techniques she suggested for what to actually DO, in a practical step by step way, to prepare mentally for competition. I was able to enjoy the pre-race time watching my friends compete, and use the last minute emotions as fuel for a very successful outcome. I plan to use these ideas again, not only for athletic events, but for solo musical performances as well (violin.) I highly recommend this book.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Every athlete should have this book! 17. Januar 2014

I was so excited to read this book and I was not disappointed. As former professional athlete and now full time coach, I have always believed that in order to reach your full potential as an athlete, you have to work on the mental aspects of training just as much if not more than the physical. Whether you struggle with anxiety, burn-out, fear, lack of focus, or lack of confidence, Carrie gives us the tools and direction needed to not just overcome our mental challenges but also how to use our mental skills to reach new levels of success. Her ability to demonstrate using real life experiences and then give specific exercises for the reader to do to improve or overcome the challenges are amazing. As the reader, she makes you feel like the book was written just for you, as if you were in a session with her personally. Any athlete can and should take advantage of this book and Carrie’s expertise. It will be required reading for all of my athletes!

I won this book in a first reads giveaway on Goodreads. And thanks to the author for sending me a copy just days after.
So I have read and taken a few classes covering some of the topics in sport psychology covered in this book and every time I always enjoy how these practical mental skills can help anyone not only in the context of sport, but also in any aspects of performance in life.
Cheadle covers anxiety, motivation, goal setting, relaxation for the mind and body, focus, preparation, reflection/feedback, and setbacks. Each chapter summarizes key points followed by tools to develop concerning each topic.
For any athlete the mental aspect of sport should not be overlooked. And On Top of Your Game is a great book to begin learning and developing mental skills for sport and life.
