"A good read, filled with humor and shrewd observations about human nature."
-- The Wall Street Journal

Publisher's Weekly Starred Review
"In her assured, personable debut, Levine-team captain of the first American Women's Everest Expedition and a former associate at Goldman Sachs-takes lessons learned on the slopes of the world's tallest mountains and applies them to everyday business challenges for executives at all levels, as well as politicians, educators, and students. On the premise that "everyone is in a leadership position," Levine covers topics including extreme preparation, the importance of failure, succeeding in difficult conditions, networking, ego management, making the most of weakness, building trust and loyalty, and bringing your A-game to every challenge. Levine writes, "leadership in extreme environments requires the willpower, the teamwork, the high moral character, and the emotional intelligence necessary to overcome exceptional hurdles, solve complex problems, and face any sudden, uncontrollable, high-risk situation, including those that exist in today's business world." The book is best suited to readers looking for their advice framed in an adventure story; the lessons within are cast in broad strokes, appealing, perhaps, to business readers who prefer not to read the words "synergy" or "laser-focus" yet again. If they can get past the feeling of inferiority from reading the work of a business-savvy extreme climber who's also funny, readers will find much to learn here."

"On the Edge is terrific, containing a mountain of valuable leadership advice that will appeal to executives, politicians, educators and students, parents, and athletes and coaches. Levine's peak performances give a whole new meaning to the idea of a leadership summit." -- SUCCESS Magazine

"A unique approach to leadership development. While the advice in On the Edge might seem counterintuitive (like the practice of going without sleep or rewarding people who failed), Levine lays out her case using her signature humor style and real world examples from leaders in sports and the military, and she uses her own experiences as a mountaineer to support her unorthodox recommendations. On the Edge will make you re-think leadership."
--Shawn Achor, positive psychology researcher and NY Times bestselling author of Before Happiness

A completely different approach to leadership development that provides invaluable advice not only for business, but also for life's every-day challenges. Presented with humility and humor, ON THE EDGE guides us towards exploring the very best of ourselves.
--Jo Ann Ross, President, Network Sales, CBS Television Network

An irresistible book that gives readers a glimpse into the sensibilities of one of the finest natural leaders I have ever known. Alison Levine's ON THE EDGE offers amazing insights....timely, practical lessons and authentic inspiration delivered with candor and spunk.
-- Brigadier General (Ret.) Tom Kolditz Professor Emeritus, U.S. Military Academy, Dept. of Behavioral Sciences & Leadership

"Despite the fact that Alison Levine lectures at West Point (Go Navy!), her contrarian approach to leader development makes for a compelling read. Using her amazing experiences as an accomplished mountaineer, Levine relates remarkable insights while revealing how leadership skills can be learned in any kind of challenging environment -- whether it be in the corporate world or climbing peaks in sub-zero temperatures."
-- D. Michael Abrashoff, former Commander USS Benfold, Bestselling author of It's Your Ship

It's a real page turner 7. Januar 2014
Von Steven J. Shifman - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I know this is supposed to be a book about leadership lessons (and it does have some very interesting and insightful lessons), but what amazed me most, was that I couldn't put it down. I actually stayed up way too late to finish it. As someone who has never climbed a mountain or skied to either pole, I found Alison's stories gripping yet, surprisingly easy to relate to every day business issues and even challenges in life.

Worthwhile -- read it in one day 10. Januar 2014
Von Lance Friedman - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
Alison Levine's "On the Edge" is an easy-to-read, page-turner filled with personal anecdotes that illustrate leadership lessons. Having read adventure stories and books from successful business leaders, I was seeking -- and found -- another perspective that might offer real world benefits.
Part story-teller, part motivational speaker, and part leadership teacher, Levine offers a little bit of everything: applications to marketing, advertising, or business development, as well as personal growth...
No doubt, Alison Levine is an extraordinary, accomplished person. Yet, her down-to-earth personality and sense of humor will entertain and enable a reader to relate her experiences to their own.
Overall, Alison Levine's firsthand recollections will interest athletes and travelers. And, the concise summaries offer a useful outline for organizational management. But, mostly, this engaging book may inspire the reader to attempt, achieve, and make a difference...

Fun and inspiring 9. Januar 2014
Von caroline chamales - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
I love this book! It has everything, I laughed and learned and even cried tears of joy for her triumphs. Alison is a superstar and so loveable. I felt like I was with her every step of the mountain (and even though it was 4 degress while I was reading it, I don't think that was the reason). Great stories and not overly technical. Her passion for the sport and adventure and life shines! And as an administrative assistant, it is a great feeling knowing that even someone at my level can and should be a leader. She nailed it, this is a book I will read over and over!

The wise, warm and witty saga of a woman who has pushed beyond all limits to reach the top of the world 7. Januar 2014
Von Dianne Hales - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
When I interviewed Alison years ago as the former Wall Street trader prepared to lead the first women’s expedition up Mount Everest, I thought she was one of the most impressive, inspiring, courageous and dynamic young women I’d ever met. Since then she has conquered new frontiers—including the highest peaks on every continent and both the South and North Poles—and taught the leadership and success skills acquired on her (literally) uphill battles to business professionals and military cadets. This terrific, engaging book captures Alison’s spirit, commitment, smarts, insights and—yes—humor in an enlightening manual designed to bring out the best in all of us. Brava, Alison, for your big dreams, big heart and big accomplishments!

Excellent book 16. Januar 2014
Von Michal A. Joyner - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe Verifizierter Kauf
I just finished reading Allison's book, and I loved it. I honestly felt cold and had to put on a sweater as she described her two attempts to reach the top of Everest. While I've never been interested in climbing, I am always interested in the effort and sacrifice that any elite athlete exerts to achieve their goal. I loved her humor, and I found her writing style absolutely delightful. I've read other authors who bore me to death. This book was a fun read, and I learned so many little things about what a climber does to both prepare and to achieve their goals. She did a great job of applying these efforts into everyday lessons in life and business. I found her to be both corageous and fascinating. I highly recommend this book.
