When hockey phenom Billie-Jo Barker returns home and decides to play in the local Friday night hockey league, all hell breaks loose. Not because Billie's talent is in question, but because Billie is a woman. And though these are modern times, some of the local guys still have a problem letting a girl into their 'men's club.'

Soon, Billie is at the center of a small town battle of the sexes, with everyone choosing sides. Her sisters. The townsfolk. Her friends. And yet, the only person whose opinion she cares about doesn't seem to care much at all. Logan Forest, the man who broke her heart when she was eighteen and the man she now shares the bench with ever Friday night.

She's got a lot to prove and though Billie Jo Barker scores on the ice, will this girl ever score with the man of her dreams?

This book ist really great !
Combine love and a touch of sport, but mostly a wonderful
protagonist who is very head strong and a very charming guy
who is lovely, understanding and also an absolut male specia man ;)

I liked it a lot, that there are a few secrets which will be discovered and are
adding the right amout of spice to the story.

Go Barker girls !

4.0 von 5 Sternen Romance and sports! WIN! 28. November 2012
Von Nikki B - Veröffentlicht auf

Billie-Jo Barker, one third of the Barker triplets, is back in town and she's not that happy about it. With her professional hockey career cut short by injury she has slunk back into town with nothing to her name but a small nest egg and her equipment. Her relationship with one of her other sisters, Bobbi, is strained and she has no idea where her life is headed now.

When she sees a local hockey tournament sign up sheet she instantly decides to join regardless of her health and past injuries. The men in town aren't fond of the idea though and they go out of their way to tell her. Now, I don't know much about hockey myself but these men were downright cruel. Billie handles the jabs quite well but I have to wonder how much of these attitudes are true and why if they are she'd want to subject herself to it. The men even resort to getting physical in a non physical tournament.

Logan didn't realize that the sporty Barker sister had grown up quite so nicely. He's instantly attracted to her but his past with who he thinks is her popular sister Betty leaves him in a gray area and he isn't sure how to proceed. As Billie and Logan get closer each will have to come clean about past transgressions. I would have liked a bit more evolution to their relationship. The sex is great and the tension is well done but everything seemed to turn for them quickly. They were declaring their love and that was that. More courtship would have been better suited for this one. In fact Logan doesn't get much of a say at all. Most everything is from Billie's perspective and I wish I would have gotten more from him. More face time and more understanding. He's there but because we don't get much from his perspective he's kept on the back burner and becomes almost a secondary character.

Bobbie and Billie...These two sisters have a tumultuous relationship stemming from Bobbi's jealousy and bitter feelings of being left behind to be the adult while Billie had her hockey career and Betty had her modeling. Feeling solely responsible for the care of their father who is suffering from dementia. Billie and Bobbi butt heads constantly and I enjoyed the friction and realistic feelings from both of them. While they may argue incessantly, they still have each others back and Bobbi is always quick to jump to her sisters defense when needed. Bobbi is the buttoned up sister though I think she may get a bit wild when she finally lets go and I have an inkling it'll be with her past.

Offside is a cute contemporary romance that should satisfy lovers of the genre. Juliana Stone excels at making the experience realistic, fun and easily read. She's sure to entertain you and I will be looking forward to the next book in this series!

I give Offside by Juliana Stone 4 stars!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Romance and Hockey - great story 23. Oktober 2012

Billie-Jo Barker has come home after an injury cut short her hockey career in Sweden, all she ever wanted to do was play hockey so she is not sure what she wants to do with her life. Unfortunately she comes home to an angry sister, a father that is slowly losing his battle with Alzheimer's and Logan a man she has loved all her life who still thinks of her as a kid.

While getting her skates sharpened, Billie-Jo hears about a Friday night hockey league and decides this might help with her feelings about her career. However sighing up for the team does not go over well with the town, it seems most on the team do not want a girl to play no matter how many medals she has to prove how good she is. Logan is the only one that thinks it will be fun to have an ex-pro on the team and champions her cause. Not only is she stirring up trouble in this small town, she also has to deal with her sister Bobbi-Jo who has been angry for years, feeling like she was left behind when her two sisters took off for greener pastures and she has had to deal with their father.

Logan and Billie-Jo are also dealing with issues, he has a past with the other triplet, Betty-Jo and spent a steamy night with her back in high school and as Billie-Jo and Logan get closer he is not sure how to say anything to her. And Billie-Jo is not sure how to tell Logan she has loved him forever. They become close as they battle the town's bullies who are making Billie-Jo's life a nightmare trying to get her to quit the team.

Offside is a wonderfully fun story that turns a town upside down when some want to challenge the status quo. I loved the characters, Logan and Billie-Jo had great chemistry and I truly enjoyed the secondary characters. The other two sisters both have stories coming up and there is bound to be more angst and romance as the sparks fly between them and they try to repair their damaged relationship while finding their own true loves.

1.0 von 5 Sternen predictable, cliched, tedious, fluffy chick lit rubbish with no plot 20. Juli 2013
Von Goddess of Blah Book Reviews - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
I though the story would be an uplifting account of a woman discovering her strengths after suffering a sports injury.

Instead this book spends 50% of the first few chapters setting the scene for its trilogy. We're introduced to a myriad of caricature chick lit cardboard cut outs characters, a surfeit of angst and lust before we've finished reading the first chapter and a lackluster tale.

I'm assuming the author intends to publish 3 books based on a set of triplets called Billy-Jo, Betty-Jo and Bobbi-Jo. This isn't a joke- that's really their names. The hillbillies are aware of their unfortunate name hence I thought, perhaps not all is lost. However, their constant irrational fighting was ridiculous and tedious. Even teens would be embarrassed by such immature conduct.

It's also pretty incestuous and weird. Bobbi or Betty had a fling of some sort with the hero, Logan. But now he's pursuing the heroine. While Shane (a former beau of Bobbi or Betty) is chatting up Billi-Jo. Charming.

Billy-Jo and the hero (in the first few chapters) rarely spare a word to each other but we can't have a scene without one or the other thinking how hot his/her bits are. And yes, Logan Forrest is really hot. He's the tall, dark handsome cliche that's found in every chick lit, but other than that he doesn't seem to possess much personality, intelligence or witty banter. The dialogue was dry, the story dragged and the fighting was over the top.

There's also all these evil background characters who seem to be solely placed as a foil to make the hero (and the next installment of hero's) look good. The worst being Seth Longford, who is not only a pale, short and ugly comparison to our tall, dark handsome hero, but is sexist, crude and resembles a spiteful 14 year old. The hero keeps company with this dude because they're part of the same hockey team - clearly the hero is desperate for team mates because this unrealistic caricature of a "bad guy" spends an awful amount of time with him.

Additionally, Shane will be the hero in the next installment. He's a damaged brooding badboy type (most likely tall, dark and handsome too) and an ex con. A tortured soul with a dark passion for Betty or Bobbi whatever,. He's hurt and jaded by love, life and all things nice. We're introduced to him in this novel and also to Bobbi-Jo or Betty (the chick he'll end up with). This charming sister has agreed to marry a dweebish lawyer and that's the dweeb lawyers fault for not being manly, passionate, blah blah. Of course he will receive his just desserts for not possessing these attributes (and for being a law-abiding citizen and an achiever) when Bobbi betty whatever leaves him for Shane - can't wait to read the next installment yay.... NOT. . .

Billy-Jo is a 25 year old former professional ice hockey player (who played i Sweden because they allow women in their non-contact version of the sport). She suffers a head injury (probably explains her lack of grey matter) and returns to her home town. Here she family drama with her sister, a melancholy (quite touching) reunion with her father and grandfather and suffers sexist remarks from former classmates when she decides to join an all male hockey team. She also encounters her childhood wet dream Logan.

The main character was so immature in multiple ways it was hard to believe.
Irresponsible, would not reveal truth given opportunity, gives false information to hurt sister. She sounds like she's 5 or 10 years old not 25.

i really wanted to read this book as it sounded interesting, but i couldn't get too far in because the cursing just wasn't doing it for me. i really cannot understand why someone can write a book with so much cursing in it. what is the purpose. it detracts from the book not adds.
