I early purchased this book, not so much based on past experience but because it was one of the first advertised.
As long as you understand up front that it is a very high level book for beginners you will be OK. I have several years experience working with the 2003, and 2007 versions and have worked with 2010 since beta.
In particular I was interested in Document Sets, a brilliant and much needed document management tool. I'm sorry to report that the book really didn't do justice to the subject. It did reference them several times and there were a few nuggets, but overall too light.
It reads well and is fairly well organized.
I honestly have not used the Office 2010 portion of the book at all so I won't say anything more on the subject.
If you are looking for user level help with SharePoint 2010, get the Shepard's Guide instead. (I'm not affiliated with them by the way)
