As a cartoonist, he has produced both cartoon strips and editorials. Chris also managed to spend some time working producing radio shows relating to sports. 5.0 von 5 Sternen A quick and comprehensive overview of OS X Mountain Lion 27. August 2012
Von Rabih Jaber Sukkar - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
One month ago, I became an early adopter of the latest release of Mac OS X: the much-awaited OS X Mountain Lion, which promises to bridge the gap between your Mac and iOS5, the operating system that powers the iPad and iPhone. The new OS X release adds features that are found in iOS5 such as Reminders, Launch Control, Notes and iCloud integration, for instance. But how do you find out about all those new features, as well as the numerous improvements? Is there a reference that you can use, without having to haul a 800-page tome around?

This is where the OS X Mountain Lion Pocket Guide comes to the rescue. It is small enough to carry around, and is destined to two sets of readers:
*The veteran Mac user who wants to learn all about the new OS, after having upgraded from OS X Snow Leopard (keep in mind that you cannot upgrade from earlier versions);
*The long-time Windows user who has recently switched to the Mac and wants to find out all about the Mac operating system - all in one place.

Starting with the new features, and after a quick overview, Chris takes you on a comprehensive tour of everything inside OS X Mountain Lion, from Applications to system Preferences and Utilities. You will find chapters dedicated to password security, troubleshooting, installation (and data migration) as well as a glossary of special keyboard shortcuts. I found this last chapter of particular interest, since Mac users have long prided themselves about having much more shortcuts available to them than their Windows peers - and after reading the supplied shortcut tables, I tend to agree!

Technically minded users who want to dig deeper will have to get a bigger reference. Network configuration, for example, is beyond the scope of a Pocket Guide - Chris clearly states so. The explanations are sprinkled with witty humor all through the book. This is a guide that you will enjoy reading, and it can be finished in a couple of days.

This rich but concise reference is one that you will want to keep on your desk. It is a quick read, and if you need a rapid overview of OS X Mountain Lion - even if this is your first Mac - along with a healthy dose of witty humor, it's really all you need.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A convenient way to learn OS X Mountain Lion 29. August 2012

Improved iCloud Integration

Chapter 8 : Keyboard Commands and Special Characters
Key Commands
Typing Special Characters in OS X

It is the perfect size to take it along on trips where I can put it in my pocket. Like shopping trips with my wife. It gives me something to read while waiting outside the dressing room.

I really like that this book has an index. A very nice index. I have purchased other pocket version books and even some short full size books lately that don't have one. It is very annoying to not have an index.

All in all I think this is the best way to conveniently learn about the features available in OS X Mountain Lion.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Comprehensive yet compact but faint print hard to read 7. November 2012
Von Historken - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
I find this book provides enough information for someone converting from Snow Leopard. Nothing has been said about skipping Lion but I haven't made it through the book yet.

I primarily wanted to emphasize that if you have vision problems the first thing I noticed was the small type and how it appears to be gray on white paper. It uses bold print for emphasis. I just wish the print had been a bit darker for easier reading. The illustrations are so tiny that they are a challenge to me because I no longer have 20/20 vision though I'm close.

I love the size and I appreciate that it is comprehensive while not being repetitious. If you are already a Mac user this is all that you need.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Quick Guide with Great Information 22. August 2012
Von Hartley J. Jackson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This quick guide provides basic information to help you get started with OS X Mountain Lion with its many features, and the applications that came with it.. I found many useful simple tips that I probably would not have found anywhere else. it includes trouble shooting help if there are problems. It held my interest, and inspired me to explore more of the features in Mountain Lion. I enjoyed Chris Seibold's writing and humor.

The only error I fond is in the Preface, It is neither damaging nor a detraction because it makes an interesting story. Chris Seibold tells us that Dawn Mann edited this entire book using only Quick Look and Messages. The error, "For example, if you click the File menu while running TextEdit, you'll see a long sequence of symbols for the "Paste and Match Stye" shortcut, as shown in Figure P-1. The illustration shows the File menu, but Paste and Match Style is not there because it is in the Edit menu.. It makes you wonder about how the Quick Look and Messages process worked, and whether that had anything to do with the one error.

There are many more good tips than I expected in a pocket guide. Here are just three examples:

For many years there has been a special program to compress files and folders into zip files. One of the many tips in OS X Mountain Lion Pocket Guide is how simple and quickly you can do it in Mountain Lion.

I was learning to work the way Apple wants us to using Mountain Lion, but something was not working right and I had to turn my second monitor off. OS X Mountain Lion Pocket Guide has the explanation.

OS X Mountain Lion provides help in password management, and how you may be able to find that password you forgot.

I recommend OS X Mountain Lion Pocket Guide by Chris Seibold for some darn good reading, information, and inspiration. It is a small guide to the care, feeding, and use of OS X Mountain Lion for beginners to experts.
