This work is intended for CNEs who want to update their certifications for NetWare 5. The study guide assumes advanced knowledge of general network administration, and focuses on the differences between NetWare 5 and earlier versions so that existing CNEs can study the features that have been changed. The changes are substantial with NetWare 5: Novell has rewritten its entire network operating system in Java, implemented TCP/IP support, provided cross-platform compatibility with Windows NT and UNIX, and aded security, print and applications services. This Novell Press title addresses the certification updates, and covers all of course 529: installation, Java console, IP services, FastTrack server, ZEN networks, and Novell Distributed Printing (NDP) services.

This is the worst certification book I have ever read. The author is totally out of touch with his audience. It is written like a beginners book, yet it is supposed to help prepare current CNEs to upgrade to NetWare 5. There is nothing positive about this book. Printing it was a disgraceful waste of trees.

This book is so full of fluff, it is almost useless. Any existing CNE wanting to upgrade their certification to NW 5 would do well to stay away from this. The data is presented in such a way as to make it difficult to glean what is important and what is not. A waste of money for the serious certification-hound. Shame on Novell for even letting this slop out the door.

This book is very poorly written for the type of audience it is intended for - existing CNE's. If you're looking for a book filled with important technical information, this is NOT the one. In addition to all the "fluff" there are numerous mistakes throughout the book - in both the text and labs. It's obvious that the author did not check to see if the labs would work properly. Don't bother with this one - it's not worth the time or the money.

Yeah I'd say 'Clarke did it again"
I just passed my 5.0 exam with this book alone, 92%. I'd say it covers all the necessary areas and doesn't waste time with the 'old stuff'. He's a real trip to read anyway.
