In Hey, Nobody's Perfect by Ann Herrick, published by Books We Love, life was complicated enough for Sivia before a guy with no legs came into her life.

Her parent's divorce did not wipe out their traditional family values. Dad is still way too self-centered, Mom is still resentful, Russ is still shoving food in his mouth and Sivia doesn’t need any more drama. But when the new student, obnoxious and legless Keeley, becomes her project partner, her life becomes even more complicated. Family friction, peer pressure and her overly controlling father are threats her budding relationship—but prejudices she never knew she had and doesn't want to acknowledge are the biggest hurdle of all.

Hey, Nobody's Perfect is a story about serious issues told with both substance and humor.

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Ann Herrick is the award-winning author of several books and short stories for kids and teens. Included in the awards her books have won are the ALA Recommended Book for Reluctant Readers, IRA/CBC Children’s Choice and EPIC Best YA Novel Finalist. Ann grew up in Connecticut, where she graduated from The Morgan School and Quinnipiac University. She now lives in Oregon with her husband, who was her high-school sweetheart. Their wonderful daughter is grown, married and gainfully employed, and has given Ann her only grand-dog, Puff, a bloodhound-rottweiller-beagle mix and six grand-kitties. While she misses the East Coast, especially houses built before 1900, she enjoys the green valleys, fresh air and low humidity in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Ann loves cats, walking, the Oregon Ducks and working in her back yard. In addition to stories and books for children and young adults, Ann also writes copy for humorous and conventional greeting cards. She loves to hear from her readers and can be contacted through her web site: http://annherrickauthor.com

3.0 von 5 Sternen small, but nice story 31. Juli 2012
Von master
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
good characters and plot but written too fast. With that the small things are missing which brings a story to life and some off the turns in this book are really unrealistic and puts me off... you may buy it and have some nice time but you don't miss anything important if you don't

4.0 von 5 Sternen Nice Story 16. Februar 2013
Von Scott R. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
This is a really nice, short (too short) book about a relatively popular high school girl discovering that she has some prejudices towards disabled people when she finds she is becoming attracted to her home ec partner, who happens to have no legs below the knees. I liked the female MC. Sivie wants to lead her own life, dodge the mean girl, get out from under the thumb of her father and live her life not his, and fix some attitudes that make her feel she isn't as good a person as she sould be. Oh, and hook up with Keeley, the dorky guy in the wheelchair. Huh? Where did that come from? And Keeley, well he is just too cool - king of snark, basketball player extraordinaire, and kind of doesn't realize he's missing parts of his legs. I wish he was on longer (note to authors: if you're going to write a book having an MC that has some sort of disability, make sure they are "on" a lot - the will inevitably be the most interesting character in the book, and I wanted to read more about Keeley).

I liked Russ the little brother, I liked Todd the seriously obnoxious jock whose life hits the wall really fast. I even liked Tigger the cat. The only character I actively despised was Sivie and Russ's father. What a shmuck! I found myself wishing that a clown would run out from behind a tree and hit him in the face with a pie every time he appeared.

This was a fast and fun read and I recommend it.

BTW publishers? When you create the cover for the book...read the book. Keeley is described as having dark hair. He is not blond.

Hey, Nobody's Perfect is a skillfully written teen romance which embraces the hallmark coming-of-age issues that beset most youth. Sivia not only learns the importance of being true to herself when communicating with her dad, but gains courage to show her love for Keeley in the face of perceived peer judgment from the kids at school. This book is filled with honesty, tenderness, humor, and serious moments that will appeal to teens and adults alike.

I LOVED this book! As a woman with a disability I loved how she wrote Keeley the main character with a disability. I hope their will be another book because this was way too short! Great teenage love story!

4.0 von 5 Sternen FOUR star review 27. Dezember 2013
Von Bianca - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Hey Nobody’s Perfect is about a high school student named Sivia dealing with the normal complicated life of a teenager. Her parents are divorced and don’t really see eye to eye. Her dad is controlling to the point where she feels overwhelmed with his demanding nature.

Her perspective of life changes when she meets Keeley. He is dorky, cute, funny, and different. Keeley was born without legs.

Sivia was partnered up with Keeley for a class project. This allowed them to spend time together. The more they hung out, Sivia had a hard time with her feelings about Keeley. All her life, she has been one to care about what others think about her. She has allowed her dad to rule her life because she didn’t want to disappoint him. Just like any other high school student, Sivia is worried about what her peers may say when they see here with Keeley. Through their friendship, Keeley teaches Sivia that no one’s opinions matter but your own. Living life to its fullest extent is our greatest gift and should not be taken advantage of no matter what your circumstances are. Keeley gave Sivia the courage to do what she always wanted, and that is to live.

I truly enjoyed reading this story. It was deep, meaningful, and overall a beautiful story. I wish the story did not end so abruptly. I would’ve loved to see more of Keeley and Sivia. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick, but beautifully written YA story
