In Hey, Nobody's Perfect by Ann Herrick, published by Books We Love, life was complicated enough for Sivia before a guy with no legs came into her life.

Her parent's divorce did not wipe out their traditional family values. Dad is still way too self-centered, Mom is still resentful, Russ is still shoving food in his mouth and Sivia doesn’t need any more drama. But when the new student, obnoxious and legless Keeley, becomes her project partner, her life becomes even more complicated. Family friction, peer pressure and her overly controlling father are threats her budding relationship—but prejudices she never knew she had and doesn't want to acknowledge are the biggest hurdle of all.

Hey, Nobody's Perfect is a story about serious issues told with both substance and humor.

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Ann Herrick is the award-winning author of several books and short stories for kids and teens. Included in the awards her books have won are the ALA Recommended Book for Reluctant Readers, IRA/CBC Children’s Choice and EPIC Best YA Novel Finalist. Ann grew up in Connecticut, where she graduated from The Morgan School and Quinnipiac University. She now lives in Oregon with her husband, who was her high-school sweetheart. Their wonderful daughter is grown, married and gainfully employed, and has given Ann her only grand-dog, Puff, a bloodhound-rottweiller-beagle mix and six grand-kitties. While she misses the East Coast, especially houses built before 1900, she enjoys the green valleys, fresh air and low humidity in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Ann loves cats, walking, the Oregon Ducks and working in her back yard. In addition to stories and books for children and young adults, Ann also writes copy for humorous and conventional greeting cards. She loves to hear from her readers and can be contacted through her web site:

3.0 von 5 Sternen small, but nice story 31. Juli 2012

good characters and plot but written too fast. With that the small things are missing which brings a story to life and some off the turns in this book are really unrealistic and puts me off... you may buy it and have some nice time but you don't miss anything important if you don't

5.0 von 5 Sternen Heartfelt honesty 13. August 2012

Hey, Nobody's Perfect is a skillfully written teen romance which embraces the hallmark coming-of-age issues that beset most youth. Sivia not only learns the importance of being true to herself when communicating with her dad, but gains courage to show her love for Keeley in the face of perceived peer judgment from the kids at school. This book is filled with honesty, tenderness, humor, and serious moments that will appeal to teens and adults alike.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Nice Story 16. Februar 2013

This is a really nice, short (too short) book about a relatively popular high school girl discovering that she has some prejudices towards disabled people when she finds she is becoming attracted to her home ec partner, who happens to have no legs below the knees. I liked the female MC. Sivie wants to lead her own life, dodge the mean girl, get out from under the thumb of her father and live her life not his, and fix some attitudes that make her feel she isn't as good a person as she sould be. Oh, and hook up with Keeley, the dorky guy in the wheelchair. Huh? Where did that come from? And Keeley, well he is just too cool - king of snark, basketball player extraordinaire, and kind of doesn't realize he's missing parts of his legs. I wish he was on longer (note to authors: if you're going to write a book having an MC that has some sort of disability, make sure they are "on" a lot - the will inevitably be the most interesting character in the book, and I wanted to read more about Keeley).

I liked Russ the little brother, I liked Todd the seriously obnoxious jock whose life hits the wall really fast. I even liked Tigger the cat. The only character I actively despised was Sivie and Russ's father. What a shmuck! I found myself wishing that a clown would run out from behind a tree and hit him in the face with a pie every time he appeared.

This was a fast and fun read and I recommend it.

BTW publishers? When you create the cover for the the book. Keeley is described as having dark hair. He is not blond.

I LOVED this book! As a woman with a disability I loved how she wrote Keeley the main character with a disability. I hope their will be another book because this was way too short! Great teenage love story!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Enjoyable read 8. August 2015

Even though this is a book for teens, I as an adult really enjoyed reading it. Keeley was a fascinating hero. He had a disability but was confident, masculine, smart, athletic and outgoing. Silvia, the heroine, struggled with allowing herself to have romantic feelings for Keeley. I thought the story was sweet. There was a few editing issues and the ending was abrupt, but I would still recommend it. Good book!
