Awful In Every Way

I'll bet I'm one of two people in the entire world to read this controversial book the entire way through and I wish I could have back the months it took me to finish it. This is horribly edited, horribly speculative, and badly written throughout. Roberts tries, and fails, not only to do a biography but also a literary criticism. Ultimately, one will not learn much new about the famed South African writer.

I tend to agree with the previous reviewer. He will be one of the only two people in the world to read this from cover to cover and the second person won't be me. Suresh attempts a lit/crit version of biography and the result is confusing, drags on and assumes the reader has read all her work. Some inciteful background moments which were useful to my purposes so the book hasn't entirely been a waste but I will return it to the library unfinished. I was going to buy it but have decided against it. Sorry Suresh. I like where you're coming from but don't think you got there.
