My best NYC travel guide,

Having been to New York City in June, I had got lots of guide books before. Out of them, Lonely Planet's Guide not only became my favourite one because it fit exactly into the rear pocket of my trousers (so I didn't have to open my backpack everytime I wanted to look up something). It also was the most comprehensive guide with up-to-date information (besides the prizing, but the inter-prize-correlation seemed to be correct). The city maps and subway maps were very useful to find your way through NYC. I also enjoyed the recommanded walking tours a lot, because following these guidelines, one was able to see the world famous sites as well as some really nice places "off the beaten track". The introductory chapters (brief history, general travellers' information) were also worth reading. As a conclusion I would recommand this book to all New York travellers!

Guter New York Fuehrer,

Mit insgesamt 4 Reisefuehrern (davon 3 deutsche) war ich im April 2000 fuer 7 Tage in New York. Lonely Planet New York City ist fuer die selbstaendige Stadterkundung am besten geeignet. Die anderen Fuehrer waren eher bzgl. des "Abhakens" von Attraktionen optimiert. Das Kartenmaterial und die U-Bahn Plaene sind gut und haben sich im taeglichen Einsatz bewaehrt. Die probierten Restauranttipps waren bzgl. Ambiente usw. korrekt. Die Angaben zu Preisen sind veraltet und ca. 50% zu niedrig- das aber konsistent. Das Buch ist in einem verstaendlichen Englisch geschrieben.

A helpful tourist guide,

This is one of the more comprehensive travel guides to New York that I have found. It includes lots of vital information on transportation and clear, helpful maps, which I found invaluable on my trip to the city. There was also a great deal of information of interest to visitors from outside the US, which I found interesting.The sections on the outer buroughs are a little brief, but most tourist visitors to the city are probably more interested in Manhattan anyhow.
