Not perfect, but OK

I love the Reacher series, so I had no choice ... but this book, maybe for the 1st time, does not use up the full potential the plot might have provided. Also for the 1st time there were inconsistencies. Just a for instace ... it's totally unexplained why Reacher doesn't attempt to connect to his old team members, especially Frances Neagly (or how that name has to be written), or that mathematically rather dubious 50:50 thing that's poping up way too many times in the wrong connection, or the rather abrupt and unexplaned (and unsatisfactory) end of the connection between Reacher and the new commander ot the 110, or that impossible action inside the aircraft. One other drawback is that the opposition this time is totally weak. On one hand they have a lot of clout, on the other hand they simply loose every single battle ... I mean, really, why invent a character which is physically superior to Reacher and then let him get taken down like nothing within 3 lines of text ... I could go on like this all the time. For instance more than once Reacher decides that the woman is "all that he ever wanted". They get along very well, find mutual understanding - one of them travels through half of the states to meet the other, the other one reads Reachers personal file so often that she can tell the story of each bullet hole in his body ... and then, just like that, they separate by mutual agreement ... no, I'm sorry, but that's just totally unrealistic. Not that these books are the hallmark of realism, but this book unfortunately had much potential to develop Reachers character in a pleasant way - not change him at all, just extend him a bit ... and it failed totally. The advertising claims "men would be like him, women adore him" ... well, not this time, I'm afraid.
So why give 4 stars ? It's still a Reacher story, so the dialogs are good, the story is OK, not as good as many before, but not so bad ... I enjoyed reading that book - took me a night and a half - just not as much as the story promised ... You know - Reacher with a woman he obviously likes and respects and which is not "abnormal", Reacher with a potential daughter, Reacher again as a major in his old unit ... so much potential, nothing used at all, he leaves the book as he goes in. Strange. But still, I like the series.
