As usual, this '... for Dummies' title doesn't require any knowledge of the topic. The author demonstrates in a vastly comprehensive manner what is needed to get you started as a network administrator. Whatever in-depth information isn't given can always be found in a book of it's own. But the concept is to condense a plethora of related topics into one handy volume giving the reader a solid basic background knowledge of everything worth knowing. I enjoyed reading every chapter and appreciate the book for it's usefulness in the daily routine.

Excellent book, very informitive. 25. Mai 2011
Von Mike Lomax - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
This book explained a whole lot of things to me. I only work with computers on a basic level, like helping people set-up their e-mail accounts or teaching someone the basic computer house keeping like disk defrag. and other optimizing tools. I my self ran into a trouble trying to set-up a home network. My previous set-up worked fine until I replaced my cable modem with a more powerful one. Then things got a little hairy. The new set-up needs a lot more information than I ever knew existed. This book showed me how to find the information on my system and how to implement this information to set-up my network. This book is not equipment specific but it gives you the general knowledge needed to find the information you're looking for. For those of us new to this it also gives us a vocabulary to help us understand the terms used by the veterans. What if you don't have to ask, what do you mean by that?, every two minutes. The time to resolution would be reduced and you would have a better understanding of what the fix was. All in all this is an excellent book with a lot of information that will explain subjects from the very basics to the more advance.

There Are Dummies and Then There Are Dummies 20. Februar 2012
Von Andrew Schonbek - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
It seems I fall into the second category.

This weighty tome was way too technical for me. Notwithstanding the fact that I consider myself to be of average intelligence, I was quickly swamped by what was to me overwhelming complexity. It may well be a very good book, but it's clearly written for a more elite and already initiated readership.

Definitely not for dummies like me.

I sent it back.

Good primer for networking 3. März 2011

A good book for the novice networking student. Lots of real-world, practical info and examples. Author effectively injects humor occasionally to keep dry information interesting and improve the learning experience.

Very good on concepts 5. September 2011
Von G4rceXact - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
As a working software professional, I found this book very useful for networking concepts. The book held my attention on every page. I prefer to get the concepts on the subject rather than getting lost in rocket science code samples (although i am by no means newbie to coding :)). Definately would recommend this book if you want to know about fundamentals (not programming) aspects of networking and as well as learn about windows networking tools.

Good Beginning Book 30. Juli 2011
Von Trent Andrew - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
This book is ideal for anyone looking to learn the networking basics. I bought this book looking to learn a little more about a couple specific networking topics, but soon found myself perusing other topics because of Doug's great explanations. I did find a couple chapters a bit unnecessary and pointless but overall the chapters were very intriguing and informational. This book is definitely a must buy for networking 101 but not for an experienced networking guru.
