Internationally known and respected as a horseman and clinician, Pat Parelli has helped thousands of riders understand and communicate with their horses through his Parelli Natural Horse-Man-Ship program. PNH offers riders achievable goals and measurable standards, no matter the discipline - English or western - or the activity - competitive or recreational. Pat's philosophies and concepts are based on a language of trust, leadership and respect, and a special bond between horse and human.<BR>

Synopsis

This is not a horse-training manual but a people-training one. Master horseman and teacher Pat Parelli offers a philosophy he calls "Natural Horse-Man-Ship", a form of horse-human communication in which the human learns to speak "horse" to the horse. The text is a blend of concepts and exercises. The exercises, or manoeuvres, are designed to help readers more fully comprehend the concepts and to help them communicate effectively with their horses. The volume is divided into three sections: "Natural Horse-Man-Ship - An Overview"; "Natural Horse-Man-Ship - On the Ground"; and "Natural Horse-Man-Ship - In the Saddle". Each section uses the six keys Pat has identified as vital in the development of a Natural Horse-Man - Attitude, Knowledge, Tools, Techniques, Time and Imagination. Like the petals of a flower, each key unfolds in the three sections until the heart of Natural Horse-Man-Ship is presented in its entirety.

Pat Parelli's work is an excellent reference guide for equine enthusiasts at any stage of riding. While his writing style bears the signs of a real show-man, beyond the self-hype lie important ideas and techniques which have, repeatedly, proven exceedingly beneficial for all types of horse-people. He carefully (albeit often somewhat pompously) describes his programme, which consists first of ground-work and then of exercises to be performed in saddle. His very noble goal is to help humans to develop a subtle, understanding relationship with their equine partners.

Having read (and re-read) Parelli's work countless times in the past few months and having consistently applied his programme when "playing" (Parelli believes that humans should never "work" a horse) with my young Quarter Horse, I have witnessed enormous improvements in my horse's demeanour and, crucially, in the trust he has for me. By establishing dominance over my horse using the sensible, humane tactics Parelli recommends, I have made major progress en route to transforming this horse from a fearful, unridden colt into a willing, dependable, "true blue" mount.

I highly endorse Parelli's work; if his programme is applied with persistence, patience, and an open mind, the possibilities in the horse-human relationship are limitless.

I really liked this book alot. I think that Pat Parelli is a wonderful teacher and this is a great way to work with a horse not against it like so many other trainers do. If i had to say a negative, i would say that he promotes that you buy all sorts of tack, etc. I do like the halter (which can be handmade btw) and the lead with popper though. I will definitely buy any other book or video by him.

I have read this book and taken a Parelli course. I have been riding all my life and I consider the Parelli instruction absolutely the best on earth. Every horse and every rider will benefit from this book.
