From Library Journal
This catalog documents a new special-purpose museum in Washington, D.C. Conceived by Wilhelmina Holladay and her husband Wallace, the museum is largely made up of their collection of works by women from the 16th century to the present. After an introduction by noted scholar Comini, the bulk of the volume consists of illustrated works each facing a one-page commentary by staff members. Plates showing other works in the collection follow. There are 305 illustrations overall including 69 fine colorplates. Commentary is directed to the general reader. With many interesting works here, this book should be a success. Libraries need first the essential reference Women Artists: 1550-1950 by A.S. Harris and L. Nochlin (1976) before thinking of acquiring this. Recommended. Mary Hamel-Schwulst, Art Dept., Goucher Coll., Md.
