My son loves this book, we got it for him for Christmas. He can't read and it's very "texty" but he still loves to look at all the pictures of the dinosaurs.
This book has him asking so many questions about all the different dinosaurs that I've started to teach him to sound out words so he can tell himself whatever it is that he wants to know, ie: what/where/who/when/how this dinosaur lived/ate/etc! He is so interested in dinosaurs and this book, that he forgets he's learning to read, so it seems like a game and it comes more naturally for him!
Also, ths book is extremely informative. It's not only "cool" for my son to look at, the facts about the dinosaurs are interesting, complete, accurate, consistent from dinosaur to dinosaur (each dinosaur has the same info, so when your child wants to know "what does this one eat!!!??" to every single dinosaur in the entire book, you can answer him or her instead of responding "Uhhh, it doesn't say..." like some other books) and informative.
Thanks National Geographic!!
