Kurzbeschreibung

Jeff Resnick hardly knew his well-heeled half-brother. But after suffering a fractured skull in a vicious mugging, he reluctantly accepts the fact that he has a long and brutal recovery to face--and his closest of kin can provide him with the time and place to do it.

Now, Jeff is haunted by unexplained visions of a heinous crime--a banker, stalked, killed, and eviscerated like a ten-point buck. When Matt Sumner's murder is discovered, a still-recovering Jeff realizes this was what he had seen. Jeff must not only convince himself of his new-found psychic ability, but also his skeptical brother Richard Alpert. Since Sumner was Richard's banker, both brothers have a stake in finding out what happened. With Richard's reluctant help, Jeff's investigation leads him to Sumner's belligerent family and hard-nosed business associates, none of whom want him snooping around.

When Jeff discovers a second victim, he knows he must relentlessly chase his quarry even if it means risking his brother's life.

"This fine paranormal amateur sleuth will send readers shuffling off to Buffalo to accompany Jeff on his investigation."

--Midwest Book Review

"Nicely written and quite twisty."

--The Book Bitch

"Murder on the Mind was a very compelling read, the plot tight and well-paced, and the relationships among the three principals (Jeff, Richard and Brenda) fascinating and cozy. I found it difficult to put down."

--The Cozy Library

"This book was a great ride that I didn't want to get off. I fell in love with the characters and I love the tone of this story. This is a good read and I highly recommend it."

Dru's Book Musings

"Murder On The Mind catches your interest from page one."

--BestSellersWorld.com

When Jeff Resnick begins to recover from a severe brain injury, he discovers he has the ability to sense past events --including a murder -- but nobody believes him. Resnick is a fine character, with a strong sense of right and wrong. This is a page-turner.

-- Barbara D'Amato, award-winning author of FOOLPROOF

"Put yourself in Jeff Resnick's shoes: You've suffered brain damage from a vicious mugging, and now you 'see' allegorical visions of murder in troubled nightmares and in even more troubling, conscious hallucinations. L. L. Bartlett does a wonderful job of showing us how difficult such a life can be as Jeff tries to overcome his own tragedy by using his new gift to investigate others. Beautifully written in a stark, spare style, MURDER ON THE MIND is a perfect choice for anyone open to a paranormal thread in a lovingly woven crime novel."

-- Jeremiah Healy, author of TURNABOUT and THE ONLY GOOD LAWYER:

L.L. Bartlett is a New York Times bestselling author.

Murder On The Mind was originally published in hardcover by Five Star/Cengage. Published in paperback by Worldwide Mystery Library.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A good read 17. August 2013
Von Reader
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed the story and the suspense. The angle about two half-brothers liking each other so much was a little more difficult to swallow, but didn't detract too much from my enjoyment of the hunt for the murderer. A logo of read.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A page-turner that leaves you looking for more 4. Dezember 2005
Von J. Coy - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
I was hooked before the end of the first chapter of Murder on the Mind. Who is Jeff Resnick and why is he having visions of a deer hunt? Then, after being visciously mugged, he wakes up with more issues than he had while he was just unemployed and down-on-his-luck. His half-brother takes him to Buffalo to recuperate. Here L.L. Bartlett add layers to the mystery surrounding Jeff. However, it wasn't just the visions that I wanted to know about; I wanted to know about the brothers and why they seemed so estranged. Where was the rest of Jeff's family? I wanted to know about Richard, the half-brother and Brenda, his girlfriend. Jeff seems to know as little about Richard as he does himself. Bartlett manages to weave a great mystery with equally great characterizations. Every page turned takes you deeper into the visions that Jeff has, the murder(s) and his strained relationships. When I finished 'Murder on the Mind' I wanted more. I anxiously await more Jeff Resnick mysteries.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Murder on the Mind: psychic or brain damaged sleuth? 7. Januar 2008
Von D. Merrimon Crawford - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Verifizierter Kauf
L.L. Bartlett's MURDER ON THE MIND is an exceptional debut mystery that adds a paranormal element to the enjoyment of unraveling traditional investigative techniques. Told in the first person through the eyes of a psychic sleuth, or perhaps brain damaged, MURDER ON THE MIND heightens the level of suspense as each new clue or vision arises.

A mugging in Manhattan, leaves former insurance investigator Jeff Resnick with broken bones and a fractured skull --- and completely dependent on his rich estranged half brother Dr. Richard Alpert and his girlfriend Brenda Stanley. Visions of a hunt and and a hunter stalking his deer prey terrify Jeff. The doctors diagnose brain damage. Days later, a local banker is found dead, his murder eerily similar to the details of Jeff's nightmares. Jeff believes the attack has left him with a sixth sense, a psychic ability to see murder before the event. Jeff uses his visions and his investigative skills to try to solve the crime but as he gets closer to the killer, danger arises from all corners. Will the police trust his revelations are due to psychic visions or attribute his knowledge to a more nefarious means? As Jeff becomes closer to his half brother, dangerous past secrets emerge touching his traumatic childhood. Somewhere danger lurks and Jeff must work hard and fast if he doesn't want to become a victim to one of the dark secrets he uncovers.

L.L. Bartlett writes a magnificent mystery! MURDER ON THE MIND mixes an eerie, psychic paranormal element with an investigative hunt for clues and facts, never sacrificing the mystery to an easy resolution. Intriguing twists keep the reader poised at ever page. MURDER ON THE MIND will appeal to a variety of readers from lovers of traditional mysteries to suspense lovers with its ominous, supernatural feel and even beyond these genres as moments of tenderness and fear both move the reader's heart. L.L. Bartlett truly leaves the reader guessing, never quite sure of the murderer's identity as terrifying details mix with an investigative trail more typical of light mysteries. The complicated psychological battle between Jeff and his brother might turn either way. With possible brain damage in play, is Jeff a reliable first person narrator? Will past secrets come to light to add another twist to this murder mystery? L.L. Bartlett's fine writing keeps the pages turning with eager anticipation until the very end.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Stand-out Debut 3. Dezember 2005
Von BookHound - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
MURDER ON THE MIND is a gripping debut by a skilled author. L.L. Bartlett pulls no punches when it comes to her characters, and ably draws us along to search for the answers right along with Jeff Resnick and his skeptical brother. Both brothers have plenty to learn about each other along the way--and they have to learn fast, because the murderer isn't cutting them any slack. It's a dark-edged story written with concise efficiency--be prepared to discover a fresh new reading experience (and to be glad you did!).

3.0 von 5 Sternen not bad 20. September 2012
Von amk - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I thought this book was pretty good. I liked the writing style and the characters were down to earth and believable. I appreciated the subtle complexity of the relationships between the main characters, which was developed in such a way that it added a little bit of drama, but was still relatable. The only thing that I didn't love about this book was, well, the premise. I feel like the whole idea of the protagonist having "visions" to help solve a crime is both a little overdone and is somewhat of a cop out. The plot was entirely propelled by the main character having aptly timed visions that spelled out all the necessary clues needed that (surprise!) the cops don't take seriously. I feel that the book might have been better if the author had taken the time to tie up loose ends at the end, including what happened to the kid, why he had a connection with the kid, etc. However, overall I thought that the book was well written and I enjoyed the characters immensely.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Worst "mystery" book ever 9. Januar 2014
Von Anthony - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
First of all, this book had no mystery or suspense to it at all. The killer was revealed early on and there were no twists or turns as I was hoping. There were also so many grammatical and formatting errors it was extremely distracting. This was hands down the most bland and uneventful book I've ever read.
