Being a beginning database programmer, new to VB, I thought this book would be just the ticket. This book does not even begin to deliver what it says it will. Even if you have a firm grasp onf VB and are only new to databases you will still be a novice database programmer. Some of the most important skills a real world db programmer needs are not covered adequetly in a book 600+ pages in length with a subtitle 'Beginner to Pro'. By their own admission the book moves along at a fast pace, the material suffers because many things are assumed and thus the student, is left to figure VB out for himself. If you know VB this book will give you a introduction (AND THAT IS REALLY ALL. NOTHING MORE!!!) to db programming with VB. Everything after Chapter 8 is very weak. If your new to VB and the SQL server good luck.

Download the database it says in the book. First I have to add code to the application in the book to allow for the fields that do not allow NULL. Second, when copied exactly from the book with all references it still generates errors. I think the author forgot that many errors can be made with SQL 7.0 that are not accounted for in the book. Otherwise the book is good

This is the best book I have ever read on VB, but this is after I had already gone through two previous books. Although it has beginners info, it is covered very quickly and may not be the easiest thing for a beginner to grasp. Fundamentals such as declarations, and conditional statements generally take a bit more explanation in order for the student to get a firm grasp. On the other hand, should you be one who truly wants to learn and progress at the fastest rate possible, this book is incredible.
