Hap Collins is an East Texas field worker. His buddy, Leonard Pine, is gay, black, and tough as hell. Leonard's uncle dies and leaves a house and money. When Leonard and Hap begin to clean the place out, they discover an old trunk containing a child's skeleton and some porno mags. Leonard persuades Hap to help him clear his uncle's name before they tell the authorities. Their haphazard on-again, off-again investigation--interrupted by a series of confrontations with the crack-house gang next door--reveals that Leonard's uncle and a friend of his, also murdered, were gathering evidence intended to expose a serial killer. It's one way to while away one's golden years. Hap and Leonard--East Texas' dusty version of Spenser and Hawk--wisecrack their way to a resolution, clean out the crack house in a satisfying conflagration, and exorcise a couple of personal demons along the way. Lansdale has written hundreds of short stories and numerous novels; all that went before has crystallized into this extraordinarily memorable book. The friendship and smart-ass patter between Hap and Leonard is so real it's palpable; the plot is compelling; and one can practically hear the wind and taste the dust of an East Texas summer. Hap Collins, weißer Hilfsarbeiter auf den texanischen Rosenfeldern, und sein schwarzer, schwuler, Thoreau-lesender Freund Leonard Pine: Ein seltsameres Paar von Amateurdetektiven wird schwer zu finden sein.
Das Haus, das Leonard erbt, macht nichts als Ärger: Es ist baufällig, nebenan wohnen Crack-Dealer und unter dem Fußboden findet sich eine Kinderleiche. Die Zusammenarbeit mit den offiziellen Stellen erweist sich als zäh; Unter anderem steht eine sexy schwarze Anwältin zwischen Hap und dem ermittelnden Offizier.
So steuern die beiden im Alleingang in atemberaubenden Tempo und über trockene Dialoge auf einen zwar absehbaren, aber trotzdem spannenden und befriedigenden Showdown zu.
Daß Lansdale über all der Action nie die Gefühle seiner Charaktere aus dem Auge verliert, macht den Roman zu mehr als nur einem Lesevergnügen.

Joe R. Lansdale is a writer like no other. He hears the music and translates it better than just about anyone. MUCHO MOJO is a fine-tuned suspense novel cranked up to the max. This is the second book in the series about Hap and Leonard, two Texas buddies who get into tons of trouble. Hap is a straight white guy and Leonard is a gay black man. Both are brilliantly realized characters and you're going to love them. You could just hang out with Hap and Leonard for a few hundred pages listening to them talk about stuff and you'd have a great time. But Lansdale is a true master. He hammers out a great story to drive the suspense. The scene where Hap and Leonard are in a black bar and Leonard explains various deragotory terms to Hap (like "honky" and a number of them that I can't print here) is worth the price of admission alone. There's humor, action and suspense as only Joe R. Lansdale can deliver.

This is the first book that I picked up (very accidental) a good cover will draw your eyes! by Joe Lansdale. I had not picked up a book to read for several years and this book re-opened my eyes to the adventures of reading and what can happen when you are drawn into characters so well thought out and totally entertaining. A spooky and loveable story and what a stew of a mystery about two male friends,(one straight, and one gay) an inherited old house, something dead under the floor boards. This is a GREAT STORY and I am so glad I came apon this talented writer from Texas.

Mucho Mojo is Mucho Fun!
MUCHO MOJO is terrific. True, it had a violent ending; but the rotten guys got their just reward. The main protagonists, Hap and Leonard, cut through the criminals like a Chuck... Lesen Sie weiter...

The absolute best book I've ever read!!!

Taut suspense thriller with quirky characters.
