My 6 year old daughter brings home books from school to read with repetitive sentences and some difficult words (which she uses pictures clues to figure out). I'm sure this is helping her learn to read, but I can't help notice that she basically memorizes the book. Other easy readers have many 2 or 3 syllable words which she finds difficult to sound out. This is a great book for teaching some phonemes ("ou", "ack"). It uses lots of words with these phonemes to reinforce learning (ex: mouse, house, Mack, packs, black, backpack, etc). My daughter can read a few easy words (ex: go, to, and, she, etc). These books contain many of these along with words that repeat the same phoneme sounds. There are still some words too hard for her to figure out but without them, it might be difficult to write an interesting story. All in all, great books to teach reading to beginning readers. I would also recommend the Dick and Jane books (which use the same words over and over, but not using the repetitive sentence technique).
