One of the most beautiful books about one of the most important books. . Large format. And large pictures. I wish however they had more of the new testament pictures . However the book is well worth the money.. Which is reasonable.Either you love art or the bible or both you will love this book. A+ all the way around...

Would recommend purchasing this book to anyone whom enjoys this type of history

This book is awesome and inspiring. I enjoy calligraphy and reproducing manuscripts from various periods. What better resource than this book. It is also a great book to have on display in home and an excellent discussion piece.

A truly beautiful book. The large format allows for huge pictures (see my photos above) and a short introductory essay for each document, including some vital statistics on each. Bibles from all ages are well represented, however, Bibles from the 12th - 17th centuries dominate because this was the golden age of illuminated Bible production. There are Bibles from a variety of traditions as well, including, Catholic, Orthodox, Jewish, etc.
The reproduction is vivid, the binding excellent and the scholarship very useful and informative.
My great dissappointment is that all of these Bibles are merely in Museums. Now a note to Taschen - I hope that this book is a plan for the reproduction of many more of these exquisite documents. Some are in advanced states of decay, and mass produced facsimiles would help preserve them and raise public interest. If that is not a business opportunity for the likes of Taschen, nothing is. I hope they keep up the good work.
