Moon Phase Astrology: The Lunar Key to Your Destiny [Englisch] [Taschenbuch]

Author Raven Kaldera presents his intriguing interpretations of the 96 aspects of "Moon Phase Astrology", which are the 96 aspects generated by the 8 lunar phases (new moon, crescent moon, waxing quarter, gibbous moon, full moon, disseminating moon, waning quarter and balsamic moon) made popular by Dane Rudhyar's work "The Lunation Cycle", as these phases each pass through the 12 signs of the zodiac. For anyone partial to the astrological or magical significance of the moon in particular, these interpretations will be intriguing, personal and anecdotal as they may seem to be: perhaps they contain some important "channeled" wisdom! Creative and compelling names are given to each of these 96 aspects, such as "Raging Moon", "Dreamer's Moon", "Mermaid Moon", "Woodcutter's Moon", "Madwoman's Moon," "Moon of Lost Souls", and even "Sacred Whore's Moon."

For each of the aspects, Raven presents a description of the associated personality type of the person born under this moon, together with a list of related quotations from a wide variety of sources, Francis Bacon to Friederich Nietzsche, Pablo Picasso to Quentin Crisp.

My main complaint about this book, and it is a significant one, is that it focuses mostly (but not entirely) on elaborating the personality type associated with being born under each of the 96 Moon Phase aspects, and thus takes on what one might call a "deterministic" flavor. This is related to my major complaint with popular astrology in general, in that it likewise is focused too deterministically much on explaining the personality types associated with different signs and birth chart aspects, and too little on using astrology in a divinatory or magical way, such as to determine beneficial days for certain magical works, or to carry out certain acts: such as when to begin a journey, plant a garden, or initiate a major change in a relationship. To his credit Raven DOES say a few things about what types of work (usually he refers to types of inner or personal growth work) which are good to do in each of these 96 aspects: for instance he says that the Raging Moon is a good time to do "shadow work." I find these comments of his to be the most helpful parts of the whole book.

I am personally quite tired of reading about what various astrological indicators say about who I am, and more interested in obtaining guidance about how I can become who I want to be, or what I want to do. Certainly a creative and intuitive person could take the interpretations Raven makes in this book, and use them beyond the mostly natal interpretations and brief references to associated personal growth work, in order to expand their range of applications to external works, magic and divination: for instance, one might well intuit that the "Raging Moon", the New Moon in Scorpio, might be, as well as a good day to work with one's own shadow, a propitious day (or night) wherein to attend to any acts or magical works that have to do with anger, such as cursing or hexing.

Well, nOw that Raven has explicated the 96 Moon Phase aspects, it seems natural that we would go the next step and make a 96-card divination system based on this set of aspects, which could also be viewed or known as a set of 96 different "spirits." Any interested reader could of course make such a set of cards herself! I'd be curious to see the associated images!

Very good book for both western and eastern astrology students. The moon in a zodiacal sign is interpreted in 8 different ways based on the moon phase (New Moon to Balsamic Moon is divided into 8 phases). Descriptions are clear and easy to apply.
