Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

A native of New Orleans, Laura Martone has been an avid traveler since childhood. When she was growing up, she and her mother would often take long road trips to fascinating U.S. destinations such as Monticello and the Rocky Mountains. After graduating from Northwestern University with a dual degree in English and radio/TV/film, Laura continued to explore America with her husband, Daniel. Despite adventures in places like Mammoth Cave, Las Vegas, and South Padre Island, New Orleans has always been her favorite destination. As a child, she explored much of the city, from the French Quarter to Lake Pontchartrain. She's dined at countless seafood restaurants, attended numerous jazz concerts and Mardi Gras parades, and relished every major attraction, from Jackson Square to Audubon Zoo. Following Hurricane Katrina, she and Daniel started a film festival there, in the hopes of luring people back to the Big Easy. Today, with a part-time residence in the French Quarter, they continue to embrace the sights, sounds, and smells of her beloved hometown. When not in New Orleans, Laura divides her time between northern Michigan, the Florida Keys, and Los Angeles, where she and Daniel operate the Beverly Hills Shorts Festival. She's contributed articles to National Geographic Traveler, MotorHome, Route 66 Magazine, RV Journal, and The Ecotourism Observer. She's also written and edited several other guidebooks, including Moon Michigan, Moon Florida Keys, Moon Baja RV Camping, and Moon Metro Los Angeles.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Lagniappe Galore! 14. Oktober 2012
Von Firefly Becky - Veröffentlicht auf
As a former New Orleans resident, I know what it means to miss New Orleans. Laura Martone's Moon Travel Guide to New Orleans is a true insider's guide to this wonderful city. She includes traditional tourist attractions, such as the French Quarter and Audubon Park, as well as many lesser-know places to visit. With her book, you'll be able to explore the city like it should be. She includes tons of extras (lagniappe), such as places to visit outside of New Orleans, a glossary and pronunciation guide to the colorful New Orleans dialect, and even a safety guide that covers Hurricane preparedness and how to recognize heat stroke (a very real concern for peak summer time in New Orleans). Her extensive guide leaves me hungry for Cajun food, and snowballs (something I can't find where I now live), and includes enough new restaurants, music venues, and attractions to give even a long-time resident and visitor lots of new places to go and things to try. This guide has enough information in it to supply many years' worth of travel and fun in New Orleans and surrounding areas. Very well done!! It's a total bargain.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent New Orleans Guidebook! 23. Oktober 2012
Von Cathryn L. Humphris - Veröffentlicht auf
Moon New Orleans is an excellent guidebook for visitors to New Orleans. Whether you've been to the city before, or have never set foot in Louisiana, this guidebook will ensure a fun and trouble-free vacation to New Orleans. The maps are easy to read and plentiful, and all of the sections are well-organized and user friendly. The author's love of New Orleans, and her history in the city, is a big bonus; you'll find inside information in Moon New Orleans that you won't find in other guidebooks. A must-have if you are planning a trip!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Love Love Love This Guide 21. Dezember 2012

Love this New Orleans guide book. Everything I needed to know and small enough to fit in my bag. (I didn't leave without it). This had easy to read maps at the front, with easy to find sections on sights, restaurants, nightlife, shops, hotels, and excursions. Found so many places I wish I had the time to try. I think I would want this book even if I lived in New Orleans, maybe then I would have time to hit all the great spots talked about in this book.

Very Helpful Guide. I do wish they had more budget friendly finds, but hey, NOLA isn't that cheap of a town! This is a great guide that gave us a good overview of what we could expect in NOLA.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Lousy index 16. Februar 2013
Von Linda Ziedrich - Veröffentlicht auf
I'm trying to use this book in planning a trip to New Orleans, and I'm getting really frustrated. The main problem is that the index is next to useless. For example, I want to know whether we'll need warm clothes and rain gear, but I can't find a section on weather or climate (except for a warning about hurricanes). A clear organization of the text would help, but that's also lacking. The World War II museum, for instance, is discussed not in the museum section but in a chapter called "Sights."
