A complete coastal reference book 3. Februar 2013
Von Dave - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
This is a complete guide of the Monterey area and south to Morro Bay. Kristin's creative writing brings you right into the coastal experience. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to educate themselves on what explorations are available along the central coast. This book includes information on dining, hikes, shopping, sporting activities and information on each area of Monterey county.

Over the moon about Monterey... 14. November 2013
Von D.S.Thurlow - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
The area around Monterey Bay is perpetually popular with tourists and native Californians. Too few get past Cannery Row, the Aquarium and Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey to see the many other fine sights in the area. This Moon Handbook to Monterey & Carmel takes in the entire Monterey Peninsula, along with Monterey Bay as far north as the beach town of Santa Cruz, and the central coast as far south as the spectacular scenery of Big Sur.

This handbook works systematically through the possibilities for visitors, beginning with Monterey and Carmel, and proceeding to Salinas,Santa Cruz, Big Sur, and Morro Bay, identifying museums, art galleries, beaches, parks, golf courses, restaurants, and places to stay. The concluding chapters address the unique geography of the area, along with some practicalities. The clear and easy to read text is very nicely supplemented by maps, diagrams, and photographs, both color and black and white.

This Moon Handbook is pretty close to one-stop shopping for planning a visit to California's central coast, with lots of suggestions and opinions on what to see and do. Highly recommended.
Great, focused, travel guide. 25. Mai 2013

Just returned from a 10 day trip to the Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur areas. Used this guide after also looking at similar offerings from Lonely Planet and Fodors. Thought that this was the best laid out and easiest to read. Overall I'd say it was pretty accurate. Obviously I can't expect a book to cover everything in the area, but it was reasonably thorough. Used Yelp, and Urban Spoon to fill in what it wasn't able to say about all the places to eat.
A BOOK ABOUT OUR LOCAL AREA - THE MONTEREY PENINSULA 14. September 2013
Von Margaret M. Robinson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
This book was purchased as a gift for our guide in Florence. It is a wonderful representation of the area with beautiful photographs and well done maps.

Would purchase this again as a gift for someone not familiar with the area. Great price and arrived quickly. Thanks!

Well Written, But Disappointingly Too Many BW Photos 16. Dezember 2013
Von Curious - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
When I guage a travel guide I look for clear, relatively concise writing that covers key and off-the-beaten-track sights to see, maps to help me gain my bearings as to what I can reasonably do in a day or days, and color photos to help me decide if I will be intrigued by a locale and want to photograph it myself. The Moon travel books are consistently well-written. This one is no exception. But the preponderance of black and white photos is a big letdown.

For a printed book I can appreciate the publisher's urge to keep costs down, make the book affordable to more travelers and still make a profit. But that is crazy logic to apply to a Kindle book! It costs no more to digitally publish a full-color illustrated travel guide than a BW one. So shame on Moon for making the Kindle eBook anything less than full color! As another reviewer stated, you don't see that in the downloaded sample.

What photographer who knows what they're doing would have shot the images as monochromes. Smart photographers do not do that. They shoot color (at least digitally) then convert to BW. So there should have been color photos to publish in a digital book... Assuming, of course, the images are current and represent what visitors would actually see at this point in time.

Images may be more or less important to different guidebook readers. To me they are vital. So you must decide your priorities when considering a purchase of this title. As noted above it is well-written and includes a spectrum of sights to suit all sorts of travelers' interests.
