5.0 von 5 Sternen Nuts and Bolts Guide 16. September 2012
Von Robert K. Warski - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
This is an exceptionally good guide for those who are looking for practical, detailed information on Machu Pichu, Cusco, and the Sacred Valley. Especially appreciated by me was the argument made for beginning, rather than ending, one's visit to the Cusco and Machu Pichu area with a stay in El Valle Sagrado, the Sacred Valley. Frankly, before reading the Moon guide, I had never heard of the Sacred Valley, a destination usually left to the last on the itineraries for most trips to Cusco and Machu Pichu. I am now persuaded, not only to spend at least two days there, but put it at the top of the itinerary. I strongly recommend this Moon guide.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Gets the job done 11. September 2011

This guide book is A-OK. The authors have a very specific, limited point of view about how one should see and experience this part of the world. For my trip, the book was a good resource. But it's lecture-y tone was a turn-off.

They also left off certain attractions in Cusco, like the Chocolate Museum. No doubt they thought this stop would be below a sophisticated traveler?

5.0 von 5 Sternen awesome book 3. Juli 2012
Von stubrick - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I hate looking and feeling like a tourist, however, a friend bought this for us, so we happily accepted. I read through parts of this book in the weeks leading up to our trip and then on the plane ride to Peru. The recommendations for sights, day trips and especially restaurants were spot on. EVERY restaurant recommendation was amazing. Not only was the food great at every place, but the atmosphere was fabulous. I HIGHLY recommend using this book and not worrying about looking like a tourist!

1.0 von 5 Sternen Inaccurate, outdated information 24. August 2013
Von Chuck McGraw - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I bought this book for my recent visit to Cuscu/Machu Picchu, which included a 6-day trek via the Salkantay pass with Mountain Lodges. I found slim-pickings for the Peru guidebooks, but this seemed to be have the best reviews for what I needed. Unfortunately, I found many of the items in the book outdated or inaccurate. I expected to find a 20-meter vertical ladder at the top of Huayna Picchu as the book had described, but sadly this did not exist, unless the book was talking about a 4-5 foot ladder. One of the local guides I respeced took a look at the book out of interest and said that many of the trek tour companies were no longer operating (at least for the last 8-10 years!) and even some of the guides that the book had mentioned had since died. He felt like the book had just copied prior guidebooks. I know it must be hard to keep information accurate, but this book was so outdated and inaccurate that it became a running joke among my travel companions. I would recommend against getting this book to anyone going to Machu Picchu or Cusco due to numerous inaccuracies.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Should not be your "go to" guide 18. August 2013
Von Marcus Peacock - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I purchased three guides for a trip to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu - this turned out to be the least helpful of the three. First, despite being dated 2011, it was the most out of date (even compared to the Frommer's Peru guide dated 2010). I just never knew when this would crop up as a problem. For example, I asked about the "Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel" in Aguas Calientes. Turns out no one calls it that anymore, it is the Inkaterra. (Frommer's and Fodor's got it right.) Second, It mysteriously over-reports some restaurants/lodging at the expense of other options. For instance, this guide spends 9 column inches blatantly selling the lodging and eatery at El Alberque in Ollyntaytambo (pp. 49-50). The next longest write-up for other lodging or dining options here is 2 column inches. Finally, the maps don't always seem to synch with the text. For instance, we are told the Museum of Religious Art in Cusco is at the corner of Palacio and Hatun Rumiyoc (page 95). But look at the map on page 91 and it appears to be at Palacio and Triunfo.
Overall, my impression is this book, compared to the other guides, was put together with less information and less quality control. That is, perhaps, why it is a little less expensive. But if I'm going all the way to Peru, I'd rather pay a few more dollars and know I'm getting it right.
