Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Andrew Dier and his Colombian partner Vio arrived in Bogotá from New York City in 2002. It was initially supposed to be a temporary move—a change of scenery for a while—but 10 years and a couple of adopted street dogs later, bustling Bogotá has gradually become their home.

Excited to share his newfound insider perspective on Colombia with others, Andrew traveled the country corner to corner to research Moon Colombia. Colombia has experienced great change during the past decade, transforming itself from a no-go to a must-see destination. Andrew is continuously astounded by the natural beauty of the country and touched by the genuine warmth of its people.

Andrew is a regular contributor to The City Paper, an English-language newspaper in Bogotá, and has written for a number of publications in the United States. He’s also become a deft translator, mostly for local nonprofit organizations.

Amazing book for an Amazing Country! 1. September 2014
Von Simranjit Singh - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
This book was amazing for Colombia! I usually use lonely planet for traveling but saw a lot of negative reviews, so I went with this. It turns out that back in 2010 (if i remember correctly), the lonely planet writer for Colombia never visited Colombia that year and just wrote the book based off of phone interviews he had with ppl, which resulted in poor recommendations and which is why a lot of ppl gave the book a low rating . This Book, however, pretty much hit the nail on the head for every city I visited (Bogota, Cartagena, Santa Marta, and Medellin). The recommendations for the tours (especially the Real City walking tour for Medellin), sites, and restaurant were amazing. Although, I do wish the book put a little more emphasis on locations where you can go out and party with locals. The only additions i would make to this book is that when you visit Bogota (like the book says) don't trust local taxis, but instead download Uber or Tipsy (if i remember correctly) and always use those cabs no matter where u go in Colombia (maybe except for santa marta, which is really safe). Also, if you're in Cartagena CHECK OUT FRAGMA!!! It's a night club with two dance floors, one for sala and the other for mix music, and where a lot of locals go to party. Many locals recommended it to us, but for some reason the club's name never appeared on many of the top travel sites for Colombia. Take my word for it, ITS AMAZING! Also, Cafe del Mar in Cartagena is really worth all of the Hype!!!

P.S. Colombia was a lot safer than I expected. As long as you don't present anyone with the opportunity to steal something from you (like wearing a flashy watch or leaving your backpack slightly open) no one will give you a problem. I walked through some of the supposedly most dangerous locations in Medellin and never had a problem.

Handy & Informative Resource 24. August 2014
Von Erik Zavasnik - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
We ordered this guidebook as an additional resource to have on the ground with us for our 2.5 week trip this year. After planning most of our trip through Trip Advisor, it was helpful to have the Moon Colombia guide on hand for both background and historical info. about the sights, regions, and cities we were visiting. This guide is packed with a well-written and informative background on the country. It breaks down the specific regions and provides excellent info on frequented towns & cities. The book is a handy size for carrying in a backpack or purse. When WiFi isn't available, it's a terrific read and resource for getting around. Maps included are general, but are a useful reference. Maps are easily found when you arrive in-country anyway or online, of course. I really enjoyed the informative overviews of the regions, customs, history and travel tips.

A Welcome Addition to the Guidebook Market for Colombia 15. August 2014
Von RichardMcColl - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
As as long time resident of Colombia, it is refreshing and positive to see new formats and products on the guidebook market. Dier has done a great job putting this guide together, a first edition is no joke and requires a great deal of work and research. Moon Guides have a fantastic editorial reputation and just glancing through my copy I am already pleased with this one.

Fantastic resource, Beautiful country 18. November 2014
Von Anh Phan - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
The Moon travel handbooks are consistently informative and insightful, and this Colombia guide is clearly written by someone who knows and appreciates the country like a native. I've traveled to Bogota, Armenia and Cartagena before but still found myself turning to the book on a recent trip as an accurate reference and useful guide to learn more about the history, people and culture of Colombia, as well as for practical details and information. Thanks to the suggested itineraries and helpful tips/recommendations, my trip was easy to plan, low-stress and thoroughly enjoyable. Now that I'm back home, the book not only brings back amazing memories from the trip, it also inspires me to return to Colombia and see more of the beautiful places and faces of the country. Next time, I definitely want to go to San Andres and Providencia, visit the national parks, and see the countryside of Boyaca and the Santanderes.

this is an excellent guide. I really like the one-author perspective 3. Januar 2015
Von diane - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

As the others have said, this is an excellent guide. I really like the one-author perspective, and Andrew Dier's in particular. The descriptions are frank, on point, and informative. The only real thing lacking are the maps; you'll need to acquire your own from city to city.
