This book kept me well entertained on a series of flights around the world. The adventures it holds within its pages were enough to make me forget I was on yet another airplane and take me into a world many years away. Mr. Howey's writing is simply exquisite. It is both technical and beautiful. I am amazed that I was able to picture a place hyperspace, given that I don't typically read science fiction. But, his words painted an incredibly detailed picture for me. Beyond the technical, and probably the reason I enjoyed the book so much, was the eloquence of so many scenes. My most favorite scene and quote from the book, which I have shared with many friends who rave about it is as follows, "They laughed with tears in their eyes, with a mind to stop laughing and soon. They laughed with the release of trauma, with the energy that probably should've found an escape with a good cry. Most of all, though, they laughed to fake it. They laughed for each other." I highly recommend you read the book and find your own favorite scenes!

You'd think that after writing four novels (Molly Fyde and the Parsona Rescue, MF and the Land of Light, this title, and Half Way Home, which is not set in the Molly universe) in the amount of time most people *might* be able to get 6 or 7 chapters written, Hugh Howey might show a little "writing fatigue." But, oh, heck no, he grabs us by the throat right away in BoB and makes sure we have trouble breathing all the way to the end. As another reviewer commented, this book is brutal. When you pick up this installment of Molly's adventures, know that, yes, you are going to see blood, and destruction, and death, all while you're sitting on the edge of your seat pulling for and whispering urgent prayers on behalf of the characters Howey has managed to sneak into our hearts. You also are going to learn more about the beloved and not-so-beloved residents of Molly's world, as well as meet a few new ones. Having completed this book and knowing that I have to wait to find out what happens to Molly, Cole, Anlyn, Edison, that sneaky little jerk Walter, and oh, yeah, the entire human species makes me want to stand over Howey with some sort of plasma weapon to make him hurry it up! Pick up the pace, man!
