These have a sewn binding, reasonably sturdy heavy kraft paper covers, a storage flap on the back cover, and some tear out pages for convenience. You can write a lot on each smooth, long-lasting, acid-free page. One benefit of the no margin format is that these are usable by writers of right-to-left written languages like Arabic, Hebrew, and Farsi.
Minor downsides are that the pages are not very white and they are not either all perforated to tear out or all permanently attached. It would be better if Moleskine offered a choice of journals with or without perforated pages instead of the compromise of a true journal w/ fixed pages and some tear out pages. Students won't have enough removable pages and personal journal writers won't want pages that might tear out by mistake.
