New Co-Author, Angelika Amon: The new edition of Molecular Cell Biology introduces a new member to our author team, respected researcher and teacher Angelika Amon of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Amon is an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as well as a member of the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research and the National Academy of Sciences. Her laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms that govern chromosome segregation during mitosis and meiosis and the consequences when these mechanisms fail during normal cell proliferation and cancer development. Increased Clarity, Improved Pedagogy: In the new edition, the authors have scrutinized every chapter with an eye toward bringing out key concepts and making connections easier to follow. Perennially challenging topics, such as cellular energetics, cell signaling and immunology, have been revised to improve student understanding. We can use model organisms to study aspects of cell structure and function that have been conserved across millions of years of evolution. - Chapter 9 Culturing, Visualizing, and Perturbing Cells has been rewritten to include cutting edge methods including FRAP, FRET, siRNA, and chemical biology, making it a state-of-the art methods chapter. - Cell signaling chapters (Chapters 15 & 16) have been reorganized and illustrated with simplified overview figures, to help students navigate the complexity of signaling pathways. - Fully Reconceived, Thoroughly Updated Chapter 19 The Eukaryotic Cell Cycle now begins with the concept of "START" (a cell's commitment to entering the cell cycle starting with DNA synthesis) and then progresses through the cycle stages. The chapter focuses on yeast and mammals and uses general names for cell cycle components as much as possible. HARVEY LODISH is Professor of Biology and Professor of Bioengineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. He is well known for his work on cell membrane physiology, particularly the biosynthesis of many cell-surface proteins, and on the cloning and functional analysis of several cell-surface receptor proteins, such as the erythropoietin and TGF receptors. His laboratory also studies hematopoietic stem cells and has identified novel proteins that support their proliferation. ARNOLD BERK is Professor of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics and a member of the Molecular Biology Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA. He is one of the original discoverers of RNA splicing and of mechanisms for gene control in viruses. His laboratory studies the molecular interactions that regulate transcription initiation in mammalian cells, focusing particular attention on transcription factors encoded by oncogenes and tumor suppressors. CHRIS A. KAISER is Professor and Head of the Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. His laboratory uses genetic and cell biological methods to understand the basic processes of how newly synthesized membrane and secretory proteins are folded and stored in the compartments of the secretory pathway. MONTY KRIEGER is Whitehead Professor in the Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. His laboratory has made contributions to our understanding of membrane trafficking through the Golgi apparatus and has cloned and characterized receptor proteins important for the movement of cholesterol into and out of cells, including the HDL receptor. ANTHONY BRETSCHER is Professor of Cell Biology at Cornell University, USA. His laboratory is well known for identifying and characterizing new components of the actin cytoskeleton, and elucidating their biological functions in relation to cell polarity and membrane traffic. HIDDE PLOEGH is Professor of Biology at MIT, USA, and a member of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. One of the world's leading researchers in immune system behaviour, Dr. Ploegh studies the various tactics that viruses employ to evade our immune responses, and the ways in which our immune system distinguishes friend from foe. ANGELIKA AMON, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. Dr. Amon is Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as well as a member of the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research and of the National Academy of Sciences. Amazon, sie sind zwar die günstigsten (so wie ich das sehe), aber es ist beinahe unmöglich einmal ein Buch, Textbuch zugesendet zu bekommen, dass nicht mindestens an einer Ecke geknickt ist. Öfter sind es zwei. Dann relativiert sich der Preis schon wieder.

Da habe ich auch nichts davon, wenn man mir anbietet ein neues zuzusenden. Das kommt dann auch wieder beschädigt, etc. Und vielleicht beim 4. mal senden kommt eines ohne Transportschaden.

Bei so Bücher müsste man ein wenig Cushion verwenden.
