4.0 von 5 Sternen A heart-warming Christmas read 26. September 2010
Von Librarian Laura - Veröffentlicht auf
Summary from the back of the book: Allie James returns to her hometown in need of a holiday job. Never did she expect old boyfriend Jordan Walker to hire her as his secretary! Years ago, Jordan shredded her heart like wrapping paper. Now he must convince Allie that all he wants for Christmas is her love.

My thoughts: I tried to put my ideas together in paragraph form but couldn't get them to gel completely. So, I'm making bullet points.

* I enjoyed the characters. (I'm a sucker for first loves reuniting.) Allie and Jordan were well-developed, and their actions were realistic...nothing over the top as is sometimes expected in romances.

* Betsy captured the heart of a small-town well. Allie and Jordan grew up smothered in the smallness of Ginger Falls, fled the town and each other to big cities, and eventually made their way back to the town, realizing that the small town they thought was holding them back was the comfort and security they needed.

* I loved the festivities in the book--cute Christmas ideas.

* I hate reading books with a helpless woman being "rescued" by the man. (It's one reason I don't read a lot of romance novels.) I was excited that Allie was the one who was helping Jordan revive the town. Her ideas were the ones that helped put the town back on the map.

* The downside: The story was short--only a little over a 100 pages. It would have been n ice to have had a longer story to see the relationship between Allie and her mother and sister develop. (This book was two stories in one, so that explains the brevity of the story.) Typical of Love Inspired books, the couple reunites in a happily ever after fashion, but with the harsh reality of today's world, sometimes you need a happy ending.

Overall, this book is a heart-warming Christmas tale to enjoy over a cup of hot chocolate (even though it's still hot as all get out here in Texas)!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Cozy Christmas Read 31. Oktober 2010

My heart melted like marshmallows in hot chocolate when I read about Allie James and Jordan Walker reuniting in an effort to revitalize Gingerbread Falls during Christmas. It's about first love and overcoming hurts from the past. With a cozy setting and a story to warm the heart, The Gingerbread Season is the perfect read when you want to curl up and lose yourself in romance!

Such a good read...and to be able to read without worrying about language ,etc. As a Christian I am always on the lookout for a book that is both interesting and a testimony of the love of our Savior.

The true meaning of love, faith and family are very important in the lives of all people. It takes a long time for some to understand this. Both books are an inspiration and a blessing. They make a person appreciate what their life is about.

The Bodine Family Christmas:
This is a follow-up to the Bodine triple series that was written earlier. It has been a while since I read these, so I can't compare it to the rest of the series. This story is about a twin of one of the characters from the series. Annabelle works on a farm for rescued animals. She also helps problem children through animal therapy. The hero in this book is home for the holidays after having some sort of accident. He's from an abusive home and becomes attached to a little boy that he feels is in the same situation.

Honestly, the romance part of this story isn't my favorite part. I enjoyed the story surrounding Kyle, the boy suspected of being abused. There's a twist at the end, but I figured it out the moment I met the parents. I'm relieved the author actually took this path since it's the less unheard of...

I didn't really care for these two getting together though...

The Gingerbread Season:
I cannot give this story more than a two. I finished it a couple days ago and just remember being board through almost the entire story. I have read a couple of Betsy St. Amant's books. "Return to Love" was excellent and I was totally engrossed in the story. A Valentine Wish was also very good and heartwarming. I would recommend either one of those books. But this story just never grabbed me. Nothing against the author, but I do know that sometimes it's hard to write a half-size love inspired books. Sometimes, I find one that grabs me, but this wasn't one of them. I honestly cannot remember anything that I read in the story, just remembered exclaiming, "Thank God it's over!" I only finished it to see how they ended up together, and really thought they could both have done better.
