I feel like I've been waiting a long time for Jason's book. I've always just generally liked him. I can't quite say that I loved him the same way I love Cage, but Jason has a certain appeal that draws you in. Well, we got to see lots of his appeal and more. Finding out more about Jason was eye opening for me and...I did end up falling in love with him.
Earlier this year, Glines sent me a little piece of something new she was working on and after I read it I knew immediately that I would like the heroine. That heroine was Jess. She is unlike any other girl that Glines has written before. She's feisty, a fighter and confident, but there's also a side to Jess that not many people see. Jess's family dynamic was interesting to me. Her mother is a stripper. However, her mother has always taught her that she shouldn't settle for just any guy. I won't say that her mom's choices were great, but I did feel like Jess learned a lot about relationships from her mom. And while her mother's message was meant to be good, it ended up making Jess question her relationships and settle for what she felt she could get. Ultimately, Jess just wanted to be loved. She wanted to be cherished by someone who understood and accepted who she is.
I don't really want to go into the details of what happens in the book, but I will tell you that Jason enters Jess's life exactly when he's supposed to. After years of dealing with an unfaithful ex, Jess has had enough. Needless to say what she does is a bit aggressive, but it also made me laugh. And it was that situation that caused Jason and Jess to meet. From the moment they met, there was chemistry. Jason wanted to know more about the firecracker that hopped into his car. He also wanted to make most of his time in Sea Breeze. So, what starts out as a hot fling to pass the time, turns into more.
As much as I appreciated getting to know Jess, I really loved getting to know Jason. He's always lived in his brother's shadow. He also has to live up to some pretty hefty expectations from his family. Jason is supposed to be the Ivy Leaguer; the politician. His mother in particular has a very certain idea about the kind of girl he should up with. And guess what? Jess isn't exactly what she had in mind. But, Jason has his own plans. There were things about Jason that I was surprised to find out. And I was impressed with how he dealt with his family in the end. I want to briefly mention his relationship with Jax too. I liked how close they were and I love that Jax was so supportive of Jason. He knew the kind of pressure Jason dealt with and he was always there to help. I'll also say that Jason upset me many times throughout the book. But, I had faith that he would make the right choices. My very favorite thing about Jason...was that he got the chance to be the Knight in Shining Armor. For once, someone saw him as the hero and I think he needed that just as much as Jess needed to be rescued.
I feel like I have to mention Krit. Why? Well, I've been wanting him to have his own book for a long time now. There's just something about Krit that gets to me. And Krit plays a big part in this story. He and Jess have always been very good friends, but there was a bit more there too. Krit has been one of the only men in Jess's life that has been a constant. He really stood by Jess when she needed it. I loved that about him. He has an interesting story to tell and I can't wait to read more about him.
Overall, I loved it! Misbehaving has a bit of a different feel than the other books in this series. It's uniquely Jason and Jess. That said, I also loved seeing the whole Sea Breeze crew in bits too and I love how their circle of friends and family intertwined. It was great! If you are a fan of this series, you won't be disappointed. Jason Stone will make your heart melt!
Side note: I absolutely loved the Gilmore Girls and I loved the references to the show throughout the book.
Quotes: (actual quotes may differ since this was a beta copy)
~"Thank you," I said looking up at him and deciding that I could get used to this.
"For what?" he asked with a confused look on his face.
"For opening my door," I replied.
His eyes went wide and he stared at me a second then leaned forward. "Jess, if guys don't open doors for you then they aren't worth your time. No need to thank me."-Loc 401
~"I think he loves me. He hasn't said it but he treats me like no one ever has. He acts like he can't live without me and he never makes me feel unworthy or not good enough. She looked back at me. "I'm enough for him. Don't mess it up for me. Because I'd hurt him for you. And in the end you'd hurt me."-Loc 2025
~I never expected to fall in love, but then I never imagined anyone like Jess. She was one beautiful contradiction.-Loc
